Civil Quantity Surveyor (QS) -
Overview
A Quantity Surveyor (QS) is responsible for managing project costs, preparing estimates, handling billing, and ensuring financial control throughout the construction project. The QS ensures the project is completed within budget while maintaining quality and compliance with standards.
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma / B.E. in Civil Engineering.
3+ years of QS experience (depending on role level).
Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Excel, and estimation software.
Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and measurements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Estimation & Costing
Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil works based on drawings, BOQs, and specifications.
Analyze rates for materials, labour, and subcontractors.
Prepare DPR (Detailed Project Reports) when required.
2. Quantity Take-off (QTO)
Measure quantities from drawings for all civil activities like concrete, steel, shuttering, masonry, finishing, etc.
Prepare BOQ and update quantities during project stages.
3. Billing & Invoicing
Prepare contractor and client bills as per actual site execution.
Verify subcontractor bills and ensure correct measurements.
Maintain billing records and support documentation.
4. Cost Control & Budget Management
Monitor daily site expenses and track cost overruns.
Prepare cost comparison reports and recommend cost-saving measures.
Update project budget and financial reports.
5. Tendering & Contracts
Assist in preparing tender documents, bid analysis, and contract agreements.
Evaluate vendor/subcontractor quotations and negotiate rates.
6. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain all QS-related documents: BOQ, rate analysis, drawings, bills, and contracts.
Prepare project progress reports and financial summaries.
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and site teams for data collection.
7. Coordination
Work closely with site engineers for actual measurements.
Discuss variations, extra items, and deviation costs with clients and consultants.
