A Civil QS & Planning Manager is responsible for cost management, financial forecasting, and project scheduling to ensure a project stays within budget and on schedule. Key duties include preparing cost estimates, managing contracts and payments, and developing resource and project timelines. This combined role requires a deep understanding of both financial details and project timelines to coordinate effectively and oversee a project's overall health.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Quantity Surveying (QS) responsibilities:
Cost estimation and budgeting:
Preparing initial cost estimates, bills of quantities, and project budgets based on drawings and specifications.
Financial control:
Monitoring and controlling project costs, including managing payments and cash flow, and resolving financial discrepancies.
Contract administration:
Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, and managing variations, claims, and change orders.
Procurement:
Negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors and overseeing the procurement process.
Risk and value management:
Performing risk and value assessments to mitigate financial risks.
Final account reconciliation:
Preparing the final project account by reconciling actual costs against estimates at project completion.
Planning responsibilities:
Scheduling:
Developing, managing, and updating project schedules (daily, weekly, and monthly).
Resource planning:
Planning and monitoring resource requirements, including materials, manpower, and machinery.
Project coordination:
Coordinating with site teams to ensure the work follows the planned schedule and progress.
Performance monitoring:
Monitoring project progress against the plan and revising schedules as needed to maintain project goals.
Combined and management responsibilities:
Reporting:
Preparing financial and progress reports for stakeholders.
Team leadership:
Leading and managing the quantity surveying and planning teams.
Stakeholder communication:
Collaborating with project teams, clients, consultants, and other stakeholders to ensure project success.
Compliance:
Ensuring compliance with relevant standards, codes, and contractual obligations
Key Skills & Competencies
Strong communication and knowledge of industrial building design and construction, including foundations for heavy machinery and process plants.
Expertise in construction management.
Proven ability to manage large EPC / turnkey industrial projects.
Excellent leadership, negotiation, and client management skills.
Educational Qualification: DCE with 6+ years of Experience or B.E / B.Tech in Civil Engineering with 4+ years of Experience.
Preferred Industry Background
Industrial Construction / Manufacturing Plant Construction / Heavy Engineering Projects.
