About the Role
The Resident Civil Engineer will play a key role in supervising, coordinating, and executing all civil construction activities for industrial buildings, manufacturing facilities, and associated utility structures. This role requires consistent on-site presence to ensure that the civil works are carried out according to approved drawings, technical specifications, and industry best practices. The engineer will oversee contractors, monitor progress, ensure adherence to quality and safety standards, and provide technical support to achieve project milestones within defined timelines. The position demands strong coordination skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously in a fast-paced industrial project environment.
Key Responsibilities1. Site Supervision & Execution
Oversee day-to-day civil, structural, architectural, and finishing activities at the project site.
Ensure all work is executed according to approved drawings, technical specifications, and design intent.
Conduct regular inspections to verify quality of workmanship, construction methods, reinforcement placement, shuttering, concreting, masonry, plastering, and flooring works.
Identify site issues, propose technical solutions, and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly.
2. Quality, Safety, and Compliance
Ensure strict adherence to safety standards, site protocols, and statutory regulations.
Monitor quality at every stage of construction and ensure compliance with relevant IS codes, engineering standards, and company quality procedures.
Report and document any non-conformances and ensure timely resolution.
3. BOQ, Estimation & Documentation
Prepare, review, and verify Bills of Quantities (BOQs), material take-offs, and cost estimates.
Validate contractor measurements and maintain accurate records for billing purposes.
Assist in preparing work orders, contract documents, and material requirement sheets.
4. Contractor Management & Progress Monitoring
Monitor performance of contractors and subcontractors to ensure adherence to schedule, quality, and scope.
Track daily work progress, manpower deployment, material usage, and equipment allocation.
Ensure timely completion of activities as per project plan and highlight delays or deviations proactively.
5. Quantity Surveying & Billing
Perform accurate quantity surveying for civil and structural works.
Conduct material reconciliation to avoid wastage and ensure transparency.
Verify RA bills, final bills, extra item claims, and variation statements submitted by contractors.
6. Coordination & Communication
Liaise with consultants, architects, structural engineers, project managers, and internal stakeholders.
Participate in site coordination meetings and follow up on action points.
Facilitate smooth communication between site teams, office teams, and contractors.
7. Reporting & Documentation
Prepare detailed daily progress reports, photographs, and checklists.
Prepare weekly progress summaries, work schedules, and look-ahead plans.
Maintain complete and updated site records, including inspection reports, material delivery records, and documentation for audits.
Required Skills & Competencies
Strong technical knowledge of industrial/commercial civil construction, including RCC works, steel structures, industrial flooring, utility trenches, and building finishes.
Proficiency in quantity surveying, billing procedures, and construction estimation.
Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and construction drawings.
Good understanding of construction materials, workmanship standards, construction methodologies, and contract management.
Familiarity with project scheduling concepts, work planning, and resource management.
Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple site activities.
Excellent documentation, reporting, and communication skills.
Ability to work in a dynamic site environment with tight timelines.
Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (Mandatory)
Preferred Experience
Prior experience working on manufacturing plants, industrial facilities, factory building projects, warehouses, or large-scale industrial infrastructure.
Exposure to construction software and tools such as AutoCAD, MS Project, Staad, or relevant project planning/measurement software.
2 to 4 years of relevant experience in civil construction, site engineering, or industrial project implementation.
