Review architectural drawings, specifications, and proposals to accurately determine the time, labor, material, and equipment costs for a project.
Proposal development:
Prepare and present comprehensive cost estimates, bids, and budgets to management and clients.
Vendor and subcontractor management:
Research and obtain bids from subcontractors and vendors, analyze quotations, and negotiate terms.
Data and database management:
Maintain and update the company's estimating database with current pricing data.
Project tracking:
Monitor and track project costs throughout the project lifecycle, identifying cost savings opportunities and adjusting estimates as needed.
Collaboration and communication:
Work closely with project managers, engineers, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and resolve issues.
Research and development:
Stay up-to-date on new materials, methods, and industry trends to improve the estimating process.
Required skills and qualifications
Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
Proficiency in software like Microsoft Excel and specialized estimating software (e.g., AGTEK, Procontractor) is often required.
Knowledge of CAD software and utility systems is a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and strong time management skills.
A degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field is typically required.
Prior experience in construction estimation or a related field is often beneficial.
