Job Description

A civil CAD technician creates detailed 2D/3D technical drawings and models for infrastructure projects (roads, bridges, and water systems) using CAD software, translating engineer concepts into buildable plans, ensuring compliance with codes, assisting with estimates, and collaborating with project teams for site support and documentation. Key duties involve drafting, revising plans, coordinating across disciplines, and maintaining project records, requiring proficiency in software like AutoCAD and Civil 3D and a strong grasp of civil engineering principles.

Core Responsibilities

Drafting & Modeling: Produce detailed technical drawings, layouts, and 3D models for various civil projects (transportation, water, land development). Collaboration: Work closely with civil engineers, architects, and project managers to develop and refine designs from sketches and verbal instructions. Documentation: Prepare construction documents, material lists, cost estimates, and project schedules. Quality Control: Ensure all drawings meet technical standards, local codes, and project specifications. Site Support: Assist with field surveys, provide technical details for construction, and resolve design issues. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate project files, CAD standards, and version control for drawings.
Key Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit), understanding of engineering principles, and knowledge of survey data. Education: Often an associate's degree in civil engineering technology or a related field, or relevant experience/diploma. Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork.

Roads, highways and traffic infrastructure. Bridges and tunnels. Water supply, sewer systems, and stormwater management. Land development and site planning.
