Chief Operating Officer (COO) - Construction Industry
Roles & Responsibilities
1. Strategic Planning & Business Operations
Work closely with the CEO/MD to define business goals, growth strategies, and operational plans.
Translate strategic objectives into actionable plans for projects, procurement, HR, and finance teams.
Ensure smooth day-to-day operations across all construction sites and corporate functions.
2. Project Planning & Delivery
Oversee planning, scheduling, and execution of all construction projects.
Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and with high quality standards.
Monitor project progress and resolve escalated issues related to design, execution, or vendors.
3. Budgeting & Cost Control
Collaborate with CFO/finance team to prepare annual budgets and project-wise cost estimates.
Monitor expenses, approve major procurements, and implement cost control measures.
Ensure profitability by reducing wastage and optimizing resources.
4. Procurement & Vendor Management
Supervise procurement planning for materials, machinery, and subcontracting.
Build and maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure competitive pricing and timely supply.
Approve vendor selection and major contract negotiations.
5. Team Leadership & Performance Management
Lead department heads (Project Managers, HR, Finance, Procurement, Sales).
Set clear performance goals and monitor KPIs for each department.
Build a strong organizational culture focused on collaboration, accountability, and results.
6. Quality, Safety & Compliance
Ensure strict adherence to quality standards, safety protocols, and legal regulations (RERA, labor laws, etc.).
Oversee regular site audits, quality inspections, and safety training sessions.
Mitigate risks related to compliance and operational failures.
7. Stakeholder Communication
Act as a bridge between management, clients, consultants, and contractors.
Represent the company in client meetings, negotiations, and government interactions.
Provide regular project status updates and MIS reports to the CEO/Board.
8. Risk Management & Problem-Solving
Identify operational risks and create mitigation plans.
Resolve critical site issues, disputes, and bottlenecks quickly and effectively.
Ensure business continuity plans are in place for emergencies.
9. Process Improvement & Innovation
Streamline workflows and implement best practices for efficiency.
Adopt new technologies (ERP, project management tools, automation) to improve operations.
Promote innovation in design, construction techniques, and sustainability practices.
10. Growth & Business Development
Support the CEO/MD in exploring new business opportunities, partnerships, and markets.
Participate in feasibility studies and due diligence for upcoming projects.
Align operational capacity with business expansion goals.
