Job Summary

The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing all engineering operations, maintenance activities, and technical services within the property/organization. This role ensures the safe and efficient functioning of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and building systems. The Chief Engineer leads the engineering team, plans preventive maintenance, coordinates with vendors, manages budgets, and ensures compliance with safety and statutory guidelines.

Operations & Maintenance

Oversee daily engineering operations, including MEP systems, HVAC, fire safety systems, generators, lift/elevators, and building infrastructure. Ensure proper functioning of all equipment through regular inspections and preventive maintenance. Monitor utility consumption and implement strategies to reduce energy costs.

2. Preventive Maintenance

Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all machinery, equipment, and building systems. Maintain updated maintenance logs and documentation. Ensure minimum downtime by proactively identifying and resolving issues.

3. Team Management

Lead, supervise, and train the engineering team. Allocate work assignments and ensure timely completion. Maintain staff discipline, performance, and continuous skill development.

4. Safety & Compliance

Ensure all engineering activities adhere to statutory and safety standards. Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments. Coordinate with government authorities for licenses, inspections, and certifications.

5. Vendor & Contractor Coordination

Liaise with external vendors, contractors, and service providers. Evaluate quotations, negotiate contracts, and oversee project execution. Ensure quality control for all outsourced engineering work.

6. Budgeting & Inventory Control

Prepare and manage the engineering department budget. Monitor expenses and ensure cost-effective operations. Maintain inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment.

7. Breakdown & Emergency Handling

Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and emergencies. Implement corrective measures to restore operations quickly. Maintain emergency systems like fire alarms, extinguishers, and backup power.

8. Project Management

Oversee renovation, repair, and installation projects. Coordinate with management on engineering improvements and new initiatives. Ensure timely execution of all projects within approved budgets.

9. Documentation & Reporting

Maintain records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and compliance. Submit regular reports to management on engineering operations and challenges. Ensure proper documentation for audits and inspections.
