Job Title: Chief Engineer - Construction

Qualification: B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering (M.E./M.Tech preferred)
Experience: 12-18 years in civil construction (residential, commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects) Hospital experience preferable.
Position Summary:
The Chief Engineer will lead all engineering functions of the project, overseeing the complete lifecycle of construction--from design coordination, procurement and vendor management, construction execution, and quality assurance to billing, documentation, and handover. This role demands a high level of leadership, technical expertise, and cross-functional coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Construction Management
Manage day-to-day construction activities, ensuring milestones are achieved within quality, time, and cost parameters.
Develop project schedules, work breakdown structures (WBS), and ensure alignment with the master plan.
Supervise all site engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors.
Review daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
2. Procurement & Purchase
Forecast material requirements based on construction schedules.
Finalize material specifications with consultants and project stakeholders.
Develop vendor networks for timely and cost-effective material supply.
Ensure material approval, inspection, and inventory tracking.
3. Consultant & Stakeholder Coordination
Act as the single point of contact for all consultants--structural, architectural, MEP, and landscape.
Ensure timely issue and clarification of GFC drawings and revisions.
Coordinate design changes and resolve site conflicts with consultants.
Attend technical review and coordination meetings.
4. Billing, Estimation & Documentation
Approve RA bills, subcontractor bills, and material reconciliation reports.
Work with estimation and QS teams to finalize BOQs and track budget utilization.
Ensure all site documentation, DPRs, inspection reports, and measurement books are properly maintained.
Certify bills in accordance with work progress and contractual terms.
5. Cost Control & Budgeting
Track project budgets and prepare variance reports.
Coordinate with accounts and finance teams for project-wise cost allocation.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options.
6. Quality Assurance & Compliance
Implement and maintain QA/QC procedures at all project sites.
Ensure testing of materials, concrete, steel, etc., as per IS codes and project requirements.
Coordinate with third-party inspection agencies, auditors, and statutory bodies.
7. Team Leadership & Resource Planning
Mentor and guide site teams and junior engineers.
Monitor manpower deployment and productivity.
Ensure health & safety standards (EHS) are strictly followed.
Conduct regular training and performance evaluations.
8. Client & Authority Interaction
Liaise with clients, project management consultants, and local authorities for site approvals, inspections, and certifications.
Manage periodic project reviews and client updates.
Required Skills:
Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent knowledge of construction methodologies, contracts, BOQ, and project controls.
Familiarity with tools like MS Project, Primavera, AutoCAD, ERP systems, and billing software (like SAP, BuildSmart, etc.).
Effective verbal and written communication.
