To oversee laboratory operations, validate and analyze required parameters, and ensure accurate entry of results into computerized systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform advanced chemical and instrumental analyses, including AAS and GC (if used).
Supervise and support Assistant Chemists and Field Observers in water quality testing.
Prepare solutions, organize work programs, maintain records, and prepare reports.
Conduct method development and troubleshooting in consultation with senior chemists.
Set up and validate newly received instruments, ensuring quality control practices.
Maintain laboratory equipment, glassware, consumables, and documentation.
Review and submit monthly testing reports by the 5th of each month.
Ensure compliance with laboratory protocols, data accuracy, and good laboratory practices.
Attend training sessions at state, divisional, and district levels; apply learnings to improve lab practices.
Handle responsibilities in absence of Assistant Chemist, including supervising lab operations.
Perform outdoor sampling and other assigned duties as directed by the Laboratory Incharge/Departmental Authorities.
Reporting & Interactions:
With Assistant Chemist:
Supervise GC and AAS analyses, troubleshoot equipment/analysis issues.
With Field Staff:
Provide guidance on sampling and equipment usage.
With Head of Laboratory:
Report on lab functioning and operational challenges.
With Staff Members:
Share knowledge on laboratory techniques, special studies, and supervision.
Reports directly to the
Head of Laboratory/Laboratory Incharge
in accordance with established procedures and good laboratory practices.
Qualifications:
Education:
MSc Chemistry (MS-CIT preferred).
Experience:
Minimum 2 years in a chemical laboratory.
Minimum 1 year in a water quality laboratory.
Experience in computerized data processing and advanced instrumental analysis (desirable).
Skills:
Strong knowledge of water quality parameters and testing methods.
Familiarity with modern laboratory instruments and troubleshooting techniques.
Computer proficiency (MS-CIT).
Workload Distribution:

20% - Troubleshooting and method checking.
10% - Management of consumables.
