Job Title: Chemist

Department: Quality Control / Laboratory

Location: Industrial Growth Centre, Industrial Road, Phase II Siltara, Sondra, Chhattisgarh

Reporting To: Manager - Quality Control

Job Summary:

The Chemist will be responsible for conducting chemical analysis and quality testing of raw materials, ferro alloys, and finished products in the steel manufacturing process. The role involves ensuring adherence to quality standards and optimizing metallurgical processes through accurate and timely analytical data.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct chemical and instrumental analysis of:

Ferro alloys

(Silico Manganese, Ferro Manganese, Ferro Silicon, etc.)

Coal and coke

for moisture, ash, volatile matter, and fixed carbon.

Pig iron

,

steel samples

, and

raw materials

for carbon, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur, and other elements.

Silica

,

manganese ore

,

limestone

, and

dolomite

for chemical composition. Perform routine testing using wet chemistry and instrumental methods such as:

Spectrophotometer

Carbon-Sulfur analyzer

Oxygen-Nitrogen-Hydrogen analyzer

XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence)

or

AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy)

Maintain records of test results, calibrations, and quality reports in compliance with ISO and internal quality standards. Support process control by providing accurate and prompt analytical data to the production and metallurgy departments. Monitor and ensure the quality of input raw materials and final steel products. Conduct sampling and sample preparation as per standard procedures (BIS/ASTM/IS methods). Ensure laboratory equipment calibration, maintenance, and safe operation. Prepare and maintain documentation related to Quality Assurance and Laboratory Management Systems (ISO 9001, ISO 17025, etc.). Assist in R&D or process improvement studies related to alloy compositions and metallurgical performance. Adhere to all environmental, health, and safety guidelines of the steel plant.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education:

B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Chemistry or equivalent qualification.

Experience:

3-10 years of experience in a

Steel Plant / Ferro Alloy Plant / Metallurgical Laboratory

Technical Knowledge:

Analysis of

, and related raw materials. Familiarity with

(XRF, C-S Analyzer, etc.). Understanding of

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Hands-on experience with laboratory instruments and testing procedures. Knowledge of metallurgical chemistry and process parameters in steelmaking. Good documentation and reporting abilities. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a high-temperature industrial environment.
