Chemist / Analytical Chemist

Environmental & Materials Testing Laboratory

Reporting To

Technical Manager / Laboratory Head / Quality Manager.

Job Purpose

To perform chemical analysis, testing, and reporting of water, air, soil, ore/mineral, and coal samples using approved standard methods, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and quality.

Key Responsibilities

1. Sample Analysis & Testing

Conduct chemical analysis of:
Water & Wastewater

Air & Stack Samples (Gases, Particulates, filter Paper Digestion)

Soil & Sediment

Ore & Mineral Samples

Coal & Coke (proximate, ultimate analysis, ash, VM, FC, GCV)

Fly Ash

Followed Standard Test Method(IS/ISO/ASTM/APHA/CPCB/EPA)

2. Instrument Operation

Operate and maintain laboratory instruments such as:

pH Meter Conductivity Meter Turbidity Meter UV-Visible Spectrophotometer Flame Photometer Bomb Calorimeter Muffle Furnace Hot air Oven Balance Hot Plate

3. Sample Preparation

Carry out digestion, fusion, extraction, filtration, and dilution. Ensure correct sample preservation and storage. Maintain traceability of samples and reagents.

4. Data Recording & Reporting

Record raw data, calculations, and observations accurately.

5. Quality & Compliance

Work in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 quality system, SOPs. Participate in internal audits, proficiency testing, and corrective actions. Report non-conformities, deviations.

6. Safety & Housekeeping

Follow laboratory safety rules and PPE usage. Handle chemicals safely and dispose of waste as per guidelines. Maintain cleanliness and order in the laboratory.

7. Qualifications Educational Qualification

B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Chemistry / Analytical Chemistry / Environmental Chemistry.

8.Experience

1

-5 years experience in environmental or material testing laboratory. Freshers with strong analytical skills may apply (for junior role).

9.Skills & Competencies

Strong knowledge of wet chemical and instrumental analysis. Familiarity with water, air, soil, ore/mineral, and coal testing. Understanding of quality documentation and SOPs. Good calculation, observation, and reporting skills. Basic computer skills (MS Excel, Word).

Detail-oriented and analytical mindset. Ability to work independently and in a team. Willingness to learn new methods. Ethical, disciplined, and safety-conscious.

11.Working Conditions

Laboratory-based work with occasional field support. Handling of chemicals and high-temperature equipment.

Pay: ?10,000.00 - ?15,000.00 per month
