Experience: B.E. / B.Tech in Chemical Engineering (1-3 Years)
Industry: Renewable Fuels / Chemical Processing / Waste-to-Energy
About the Role:
We are seeking a competent and detail-oriented
Chemical Process Engineer
to support the operation, monitoring, design support, and optimization of chemical process plant systems. The role involves ensuring safe, efficient, and continuous plant operations through sound process engineering practices, process calculations, documentation, and coordination with operations and maintenance teams. The Engineer will actively contribute to process design, performance improvement, and plant reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate, monitor, and optimize chemical process units in compliance with approved SOPs and production requirements.
Analyze key process parameters (temperature, pressure, flow rates, compositions, and residence times) to ensure safe, stable, and efficient operations.
Perform material and energy balance calculations for individual units and overall plant performance evaluation.
Execute process design and operating calculations using MS Excel and Python, including equipment sizing checks and performance analysis.
Develop, review, and update Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) to support design, troubleshooting, and plant modifications.
Support start-up, shutdown, commissioning, and stabilization of new and existing process units.
Identify and troubleshoot process deviations, operational bottlenecks, and inefficiencies; implement corrective and optimization measures.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date process documentation including operating logs, calculation sheets, technical notes, and performance reports.
Coordinate with maintenance, instrumentation, electrical, and project teams during breakdowns, preventive maintenance, and plant modification activities.
Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental (EHS) regulations, chemical handling standards, and waste management practices; participate in HAZOP, risk assessments, and safety audits.
Contribute to debottlenecking, scale-up, continuous improvement, and technology evaluation initiatives.
Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from a recognized institution (mandatory).
2-5 years of relevant experience in chemical process plant operations, renewable fuels, petrochemicals, specialty chemicals, or allied process industries.
Strong foundation in chemical engineering fundamentals including thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, reaction engineering, and separation processes.
Proven capability of effective working with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Hands-on experience in process calculations and modelling using MS Excel; working knowledge of Python for engineering calculations, data analysis, or automation is preferred.
Practical understanding of key unit operations and equipment such as reactors, distillation columns, absorbers/strippers, heat exchangers, pumps, and compressors.
Working knowledge of process control systems (DCS/PLC/SCADA) and industrial instrumentation relevant to plant operations and troubleshooting (Recommended)
Strong awareness of process safety, industrial safety standards, environmental regulations, and quality systems, with exposure to HAZOP or risk assessment activities being advantageous.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to translate engineering analysis into actionable plant decisions.
Willingness to work in office as well as in plant environments and support operational, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities as per business needs.
Willingness to relocate within India, if required by the Organization.
