Chemical Manufacturing Plant Manager
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management:
Oversee all aspects of daily plant operations, including production, maintenance, quality control, and logistics. Plan and execute production schedules to meet demand, optimize workflow, and ensure maximum efficiency and productivity.
Safety and Compliance:
Implement and enforce strict safety protocols and procedures to create a secure working environment. Ensure full compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including those from OSHA and the EPA. Lead safety audits, incident investigations, and implement corrective actions.
Team Leadership:
Manage a diverse team of supervisors, engineers, and plant operators. Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to foster a high-performance culture. Recruit, train, and develop staff to ensure the team has the skills needed to meet plant objectives.
Financial Management:
Develop and manage the plant's operational budget, controlling costs related to labor, raw materials, and maintenance. Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement, reduce waste, and increase profitability.
Process Improvement:
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing performance. Utilize methodologies like Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing to optimize processes, improve product quality, and reduce operational downtime.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Education:
A bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field is typically required. Preferred a master's degree, such as an MBA or M Tech in engineering management.
Experience:
Require 10+ years of experience in the chemical, petrochemical, or refinery industries, with a significant portion of that time spent in a management or leadership capacity.
Technical Skills:
In-depth knowledge of chemical production processes, equipment, and technology. Proficiency in process control systems (e.g., DCS/PLC) and a strong understanding of safety management protocols (e.g., Process Safety Management, or PSM) are essential.
Core Competencies:
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills are crucial for managing a large team and collaborating with various stakeholders. Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational abilities are also vital for success in this role.
