Certified Lactation Consultant/counselor

Job Description
Lactation Consultant is responsible for identifying and correcting lactation problems and Lactation counselling for pregnant women. Provides assistance with breast milk pumping, pump usage, management of breast milk collection and storage, and obtaining breast pumps for home use.
- Provides lactation support through individual consultations in the NICU and inpatient pediatric units.
- Provides evidence-based care and resources to breastfeeding women and their families.
- Works with Employee Health to provide lactation support to lactating staff members.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives related to human milk and breastfeeding.
- Provides education to staff on breastfeeding and lactation support.
- Develops and maintain effective relationships with inter-professional team.
- Remains current in advances in lactation practices and implications for patient care.
- Serves as a highly visible resource and mentors staff in breastfeeding and lactation support.
- Participates in the development and implementation of overall institutional policies and procedures relating to breastfeeding, human milk and lactation.
- Other duties as assigned.
