Job Description

A CCTV Engineer is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of CCTV surveillance systems and related security equipment. This role ensures that all systems operate efficiently, securely, and in compliance with industry standards and organizational security requirements.

Key ResponsibilitiesInstallation & Setup

Install CCTV cameras (IP/analog), NVRs/DVRs, network switches, and related hardware. Configure video management software (VMS) and integrate with existing IT systems. Perform cabling (Cat5/6, fiber, coax) and ensure structured, safe wiring practices. Conduct site surveys and recommend optimal camera placement for coverage.

Maintenance & Support

Perform routine maintenance, firmware updates, and system checks. Diagnose and repair system faults, connectivity issues, power failures, and camera defects. Replace faulty components and ensure minimal downtime. Maintain logs of system status, repairs, and service reports.

Network & System Administration

Configure IP addressing, network routing, port forwarding, and remote access. Ensure data storage availability, retention compliance, and backup procedures. Monitor network performance to ensure smooth video streaming and recording. Integrate CCTV with access control, alarms, and other security systems (if applicable).

Security & Compliance

Ensure systems follow cybersecurity best practices (passwords, encryption, updates). Adhere to privacy laws, GDPR/local regulations, and company security policies. Maintain confidentiality of recorded data and access credentials.

Customer Interaction & Documentation

Communicate with clients or internal teams to understand requirements and provide solutions. Prepare installation reports, technical documentation, system diagrams, and user guides. Provide user training on CCTV operation and system features.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Strong knowledge of CCTV technologies (IP, analog, PTZ, thermal). Proficiency with NVR/DVR systems, VMS platforms, and network configuration. Experience with structured cabling, power systems, and troubleshooting tools. Ability to read technical drawings, floor plans, and wiring diagrams. Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently or in a team, often on-site.
