Job Opening: Cataract/Retina Counselor

About the Role:

Siliguri Lions Netralaya is seeking a compassionate and articulate Cataract/Retina Counselor to join our team. You will be a vital bridge between the retina care team and patients, ensuring patients are informed, reassured, and guided through every stage of diagnosis, treatment, and surgery.

Key Responsibilities:

Educate patients and attendants about retina conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, and macular degeneration.

Clearly explain test results, treatment plans, risks, benefits, and expected outcomes.

Coordinate retina investigations including FFA, OCT, B-scan, and surgeries.

Obtain and explain informed consent for retina procedures.

Counsel patients before and after surgery, ensuring proper understanding of post-op care and follow-up.

Maintain accurate records and assist in patient education via brochures, seminars, and videos.

Support patients with treatment packages or insurance-related queries.

Ensure consistent follow-up for treatments and appointments.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Social Work, or similar. Diploma in Counseling or Healthcare Management is a plus.

Experience: Minimum 1 year in a healthcare or eye care setup; retina experience preferred.

Fluent in English, Hindi, Bengali & Nepali.

Empathetic communication skills and the ability to handle emotionally sensitive situations.

Proficiency in basic computer usage (Excel, EMR systems).

Preferred Qualities:

Prior experience in an eye hospital, especially retina department.

Familiarity with ophthalmic terminology and consent procedures.

Understanding of patient flow and counseling protocols in a clinical setting.
