Career In Politics

Year    India, India

Job Description

What: Contrary to the popular belief that Indian youth abhor politics, a new study by a social research organisation has suggested their interest in politics has consistently risen and a significant number of young men and women are willing to enter the field if given a chance. What comes as a more interesting observation is that youth of the middle class, generally believed to be cynical to politics, are more in favour of making a career in politics than their counterparts in other economic strata. Politics is a fulltime job that requires individuals to invest a lot of time, energy and money. How: A good education helps a politician understand the situation around him in a better manner and find apt solutions. However, a good politician is one who is sensitive and not apathetic towards the need of his city, country and the people around him. The study based on a survey of 2,565 respondents and other mechanisms points to a rising interest of youths for jobs in politics as well as their awareness of issues, and concludes that today’s youths are taking more interest in politics than those of mid-90s. Where: There is no rush to enter politics. If you are already inclined to join politics, spend some time understanding how the field works and how individuals operate.
On the other hand, if you are looking to enter politics as an individual candidate, first work and gather a capital amount. In the meanwhile, make yourself familiar with the field. Once you have gathered enough experience, knowledge and the money, nothing can stop you. A career in politics is like an entrepreneurial venture, where even though you do not know what the outcome will be, you want to enter it because it has been your dream. Lately some innovative new programs have been started in this regard. These Institutes conduct leadership activities throughout the year. The Institute features local and national speakers who share their invaluable expertise on political campaigning, media, public policy issues, leadership and ethics.
