The Calibration Quality Assurance Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring that all calibration processes and related documentation within the aerospace manufacturing environment meet the highest standards of quality and regulatory compliance. This role focuses on auditing calibration activities, managing non-conformances, driving continuous improvement in the metrology system, and ensuring adherence to national and international standards.
Key Responsibilities
? Quality Management System (QMS) Oversight:
o Develop, implement, and maintain the calibration segment of the company's QMS, ensuring compliance with standards such as AS9100D, ISO 9001:2015, and ISO/IEC 17025.
? Auditing and Compliance:
o Conduct regular internal audits of the calibration laboratory and manufacturing floor to assess adherence to established calibration procedures and work instructions.
o Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors (customer, regulatory, certification bodies) regarding calibration processes and documentation.
o Verify that all measuring and test equipment is traceable to recognized national or international standards, such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
? Documentation and Record Keeping:
o Review and approve all calibration certificates, data reports, and documentation for accuracy and completeness.
o Manage and maintain the calibration tracking system (software/database), ensuring all records are meticulous and readily available for audits.
o Create, update, and control calibration procedures, work instructions, and test methods.
? Non-Conformance and Corrective Action:
o Investigate equipment failures, non-conformities, and calibration discrepancies to determine root causes.
o Implement and track corrective (CA) to resolve issues and prevent recurrence.
? Technical Support and Training:
o Provide quality-related technical support to the calibration team and production departments.
o Develop and deliver training programs to personnel on proper use of measuring equipment,
quality procedures, and documentation practices.
? Continuous Improvement:
o Monitor and analyze quality metrics related to calibration to identify trends and drive process improvements, cost savings, and enhanced efficiency.
? Vendor Management:
o Coordinate with and audit external ISO/IEC 17025 accredited calibration vendors to ensure the quality of outsourced services.
Qualifications
? Education:
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, or Quality) or a related
technical field is typically required.
? Experience
: Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in a Quality Assurance or metrology/calibration role within a manufacturing environment.
Required Skills
? Technical Skills:
o Strong knowledge of quality standards, including AS9100, ISO 9001, and a deep understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
o Proficiency in metrology principles, measurement uncertainty analysis, and statistical analysis tools (SPC).
o Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications (including GD&T).
o Hands-on experience with a variety of M&TE and calibration software.
? Certifications:
o Internal Auditor certification for AS9100D or ISO/IEC 17025 is a plus.
? Soft Skills:
o Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documentation and training purposes.
o Strong ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
o Good knowledge of MS Excel, Word, Power Point and email writing.
