Key responsibilities

Nesting and CAD design:

Create 2D and 3D designs and layouts using CAD software, and use nesting software to arrange parts on raw material sheets for maximum material utilization and minimal waste.

CNC file generation:

Generate CNC (computer numerical control) files for automated cutting machines like plasma, laser, or oxy-fuel cutters.

Technical review and coordination:

Read and interpret architectural, structural, and fabrication drawings to ensure designs are accurate and meet specifications.

Manufacturing support:

Collaborate with shop personnel and cutting vendors to resolve manufacturing issues and optimize the production process.

Material and machine knowledge:

Understand material properties, industry standards, and the capabilities and limitations of different CNC cutting machines.

Documentation:

Maintain an organized file system for production drawings and generate detailed technical documentation.

Essential skills and qualifications

Software proficiency:

Strong skills in CAD and nesting software such as AutoCAD, ProNest, Tekla, or SigmaNEST are essential.

Technical knowledge:

Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications.

Problem-solving:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to optimize layouts and troubleshoot manufacturing issues.

Attention to detail:

A high degree of accuracy is required for creating precise and efficient designs.

Collaboration:

The ability to work effectively with a variety of teams, including production, engineering, and external vendors.

Educational background:

A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is often required, along with previous experience in a similar role.
