The Business Head is accountable for ensuring zero loss of sale by managing a network of external
manufacturing vendors to deliver merchandise on time across all retail channels. This role owns
vendor capacity planning, order allocation strategy, and fabric flow coordination to maintain optimal
inventory availability from production through distribution.
Key responsibilities include establishing vendor rating systems to prioritize high-performing
manufacturing partners, coordinating fabric dispatch to minimize production lead times, and
providing clear order pipelines that enable vendors to plan capacity investments. The Business Head
functions as a strategic partner to manufacturers, proactively addressing operational challenges and
capacity constraints to drive mutual business optimization.
Success requires balancing analytical rigor in capacity planning and inventory management with
strong vendor relationship capabilities to build a reliable, high-performing manufacturing network.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Production Planning & Scheduling
? Prepare detailed production plans based on sales forecasts, order pipeline, and demand
signals across all channels.
? Develop Time & Action Calendars for each order from cutting to shipment.
? Allocate production capacity across vendor base and internal manufacturing units.
? Conduct pre-production meetings with merchandising, buying, QA, and factory teams to
ensure readiness.
? Monitor daily/weekly/monthly production output against plan and expedite delays.
? Ensure 100% capacity utilization while meeting on-time delivery targets.
2. Material Resource Planning (MRP) & Inventory Control
? Calculate material requirements (fabric, trims, accessories) based on production schedules
and consumption norms
? Track raw material availability and coordinate with procurement for timely in-housing
? Monitor WIP (Work-in-Progress) inventory at each production stage using Excel trackers
? Identify and resolve bottlenecks causing material pile-up or production stoppages
? Maintain optimal inventory levels to prevent production delays while minimizing working
capital
3. Stock on Hand (SOH) & Distribution Management
? Track real-time inventory across warehouses, D2C, E-commerce platforms, and retail outlets
? Ensure adequate safety stock levels based on lead time and demand velocity
? Trigger replenishment orders proactively to prevent stockouts
? Manage stock allocation and redistribution across channels based on sales performance
? Monitor stock aging and coordinate markdown/liquidation strategies for slow-moving
inventory
4. Loss of Sale Prevention & Demand-Supply Balancing
? Proactively identify potential stockout situations and take immediate corrective action
? Conduct root cause analysis for any loss of sale incidents and implement preventive
measures
? Balance demand volatility with production capacity constraints and lead time realities
? Coordinate with sales/marketing teams on promotional campaigns requiring inventory build-
up
? Plan for seasonality, new launches, and peak sale periods
5. Production Control & Follow-Up
? Monitor production progress against planned timelines and update Time & Action Calendar
on a regular basis.
? Chase department heads and vendors to keep production on track
? Create alarm systems for delays and expedite critical orders
? Implement corrective actions for production shortfalls and quality issues
? Ensure smooth material flow between production stages.
6. Vendor & Factory Coordination
? Manage relationships with manufacturing vendors, subcontractors, and job-work partners
? Track vendor performance: on-time delivery, quality adherence, capacity utilization
? Conduct regular factory visits for production review, problem-solving, and relationship
management
? Negotiate timelines, resolve production issues, and ensure compliance with quality
standards
? Develop vendor scorecards and continuous improvement plans
7. Line Planning & Capacity Management
? Prepare detailed line plans with daily production targets for each production line
? Determine which styles to load on which lines based on work content, skill requirements,
and efficiency
? Collaborate with Industrial Engineering team on line balancing and efficiency improvement
? Estimate daily production output, production costs per piece, and manpower requirements
? Update factory capacity regularly and recommend capacity expansion/reduction based on
order book
8. Excel-Based Tracking, Reporting & Analytics
? Build and maintain comprehensive Excel trackers for: Production planning and scheduling
(Time & Action Calendar), Stage-wise WIP inventory tracking, Loss of sale tracking and
analysis, Vendor performance scorecards
? Generate daily/weekly reports on: Production progress vs. plan, Inventory health (stage-
wise, channel-wise), Stockout alerts and loss of sale metrics, Vendor performance and
delivery adherence
? Perform scenario planning for capacity constraints, demand spikes, and supply disruptions
? Present data-driven insights to Supply Chain Lead and cross-functional teams
9. Cross-Functional Coordination
? Merchandising/Buying: Align on demand forecasts, style priorities, and assortment planning
? Sales/Marketing: Coordinate on promotional calendars, campaign inventory requirements,
and channel-specific needs
? Quality Assurance: Ensure inline quality checks and resolve quality-related production
stoppages
? Warehousing/Logistics: Coordinate stock transfers, allocation, and transit tracking
? Procurement: Synchronize material availability with production schedules
? Finance: Provide inventory ageing reports, working capital analysis, and cost variance
tracking
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Must-Have:
Experience:
? 10-15 years in apparel/garment manufacturing with strong production planning and
inventory management background
? Minimum 5+ years in production planning, PPC, or merchandising planning roles
? Proven track record of preventing stockouts and maintaining inventory availability
? Experience managing multi-stage production operations (cutting, sewing, finishing, packing)
? Hands-on experience with vendor/factory coordination and production control
Technical Skills:
? Advanced Excel proficiency.
? Complex formulas (VLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH, SUMIFS, Pivot Tables)
? Production trackers, WIP dashboards, inventory management sheets
? Scenario modelling and what-if analysis
Data visualization and reporting
? Deep understanding of garment manufacturing processes: cutting, sewing, finishing, quality
control, packing
? Strong inventory management expertise across production stages and distribution network
? Knowledge of Material Resource Planning (MRP) and capacity planning
? Proficiency in production scheduling, line planning, and Time & Action Calendar
management
