Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Growth & Market Analysis
Develop and execute a
3-5 year business development strategy
to expand the company's market share in sectors such as residential, commercial, industrial, or infrastructure.
Conduct continuous market research to identify emerging trends (e.g., green building, modular construction) and competitor activities.
Identify and enter new geographic territories or specialised niches.
2. Relationship Management & Networking
Act as the "face of the company" at industry events, conferences, and trade associations.
Build and maintain high-level relationships with
Property Developers, Architects, Quantity Surveyors, and Government Procurement Officers.
Manage existing client accounts to ensure repeat business and referrals.
3. Pipeline & Bid Management
Oversee the
Pre-Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ)
and
Request for Proposal (RFP)
processes.
Collaborate with the Estimating and Engineering teams to ensure bids are commercially viable, competitive, and technically sound.
Lead contract negotiations to secure favourable terms while mitigating risk.
4. Team Leadership
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Business Development Managers and Bid Writers.
Set and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as "Win Ratio," "Pipeline Value," and "Customer Acquisition Cost."
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience:
10+ years of experience in Business Development or Sales, with at least 5 years specifically within the
Construction
industry.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Business Administration. An
MBA
is highly preferred.
Commercial Acumen:
Deep understanding of construction contracts (e.g., JCT, NEC, or FIDIC), project margins, and financial forecasting.
Networking:
A pre-existing network of industry contacts (Developers, Consultants, etc.).
Tech Savvy:
Proficiency in CRM software (like Salesforce or HubSpot) and construction-specific bidding tools.
