Position Objective -
Incumbent will be is responsible for driving business performance across assigned supermarket chains and key retail outlets within the designated territory. The role focuses on market intelligence, relationshipmanagement, negotiation, stock servicing, and cross-functional collaboration to strengthen portfolio presence, improve visibility, and ensure consistent product availability. The incumbent will act as a strategic interface between key retail partners and internal teams to deliver sustainable growth and superior customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
1. Market Intelligence & Competitive Insights

  • Develop and maintain high levels of internal and external market intelligence for key retail outlets within the assigned territory.
  • Monitor competitor activity, pricing, promotions, assortment, and shelf visibility across local markets.
  • Generate actionable insights to support portfolio expansion and tactical decision-making.
2. Relationship Management
  • Build, nurture, and sustain strong professional relationships with key retail decision-makers, wholesalers, and channel partners.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for assigned accounts to ensure alignment with organisational objectives.
  • Strengthen long-term partnerships to enable consistent collaboration and business growth.
3. Negotiation & Business Proposals
  • Develop and present compelling business proposals, commercial terms, and contracts with key retail outlets.
  • Negotiate visibility, assortment, promotions, and in-store activations to enhance portfolio presence.
  • Ensure commercial agreements are mutually beneficial and compliant with company policies.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with the field sales team to ensure effective execution at the outlet level.
  • Coordinate with the Head Office Shopper Marketing team to align promotional plans and in-store initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders such as inventory, supply chain, and operations to ensure seamless product availability and timely servicing.
5. Reporting, Stock Monitoring & Forecasting
  • Track and continuously monitor stock servicing, secondary sales, and replenishment levels across assigned supermarket chains.
  • Forecast demand in collaboration with the broader sales team to minimise stock-outs and excess inventory.
  • Prepare periodic performance reports and highlight risks, opportunities, and corrective actions.
6. Product Knowledge & Portfolio Development
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of supermarket-specific products, assortments, and planograms.
  • Recommend new product introductions or range rationalisation based on market demand and retailer
requirements.
  • Support effective product launches and portfolio expansion initiatives.
Key Performance Indicators
  • Sales growth and achievement of assigned revenue and volume targets
  • Distribution expansion and portfolio penetration in key retail outlets
  • On-shelf availability, stock servicing efficiency, and inventory health
  • Visibility and execution of in-store promotions and shopper marketing initiatives
  • Effectiveness of forecasting accuracy and reduction in stock-outs
  • Quality of retailer relationships and account retention
Educational Qualification, Work experience & Key Competencies
Educational qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Marketing, Commerce, or a related discipline
  • MBA or Postgraduate qualification in Sales / Marketing will be an added advantage
Work experience
  • 3-6 years of relevant experience in FMCG sales, preferably in Modern Trade / Key Accounts / Organized Retail
  • Proven experience in handling supermarket chains, wholesalers, or large-format retail outlets
Exposure to trade marketing, negotiations, and cross-functional coordination is preferred
Key competencies
  • Strong understanding of FMCG retail dynamics and modern trade operations
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical ability to interpret market data and sales trends
  • Ability to develop business proposals and manage commercial discussions
  • Proficiency in sales reporting, forecasting, and basic data analysis tools
  • High level of product and category knowledge
