Responsibilities
Conduct field surveys to identify, catalog, and monitor various plant species within designated ecosystems using scientific research methods.
Collect and analyze plant samples, documenting their growth patterns, health status, and ecological roles through meticulous laboratory work.
Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools such as ArcGIS to map plant distributions and habitat features for research and conservation planning.
Perform laboratory experiments related to plant physiology, taxonomy, microbiology, and horticulture to support ongoing projects.
Assist in habitat restoration efforts by selecting appropriate native plants and implementing planting strategies aligned with environmental law regulations.
Support educational outreach by preparing reports, presentations, and educational materials about plant biodiversity and conservation initiatives.
Collaborate with veterinary professionals or zoological teams when working with botanical elements that impact animal care or zoo environments.
Maintain detailed records of research findings, specimen data, and laboratory procedures ensuring accuracy and compliance with safety standards.
Stay current with advancements in botany, environmental law, and related fields through continuous learning and professional development.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree or higher in Botany, Plant Science, Ecology, Environmental Science or a related field; advanced degrees preferred.
Proven experience in scientific research involving plants or ecosystems; laboratory experience is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of plant taxonomy, anatomy, microbiology, horticulture practices, and environmental law applicable to conservation efforts.
Familiarity with GIS software such as ArcGIS for spatial analysis and mapping purposes.
Practical experience with animal handling or veterinary experience is a plus when working within zoo or habitat settings involving botanical components impacting animal health.
Ability to perform detailed laboratory procedures including medication administration for plants or animals when necessary.
Excellent skills in animal restraint techniques when working with zoological environments that intersect with botanical projects.
Knowledge of pet care principles relevant to botanical environments supporting animal habitats or zoo settings.
Strong organizational skills for maintaining accurate records of research activities and specimen data.
