Overview:

We are a growing small business government contractor in the United States seeking a freelance

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

with hands-on experience working with federal contractors. This role is responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency across all accounting functions. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced small business setting and possess a solid understanding of

Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)

Cost Accounting Standards (CAS)

, and

DCAA

compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations. Ensure financial practices comply with FAR, CAS, GAAP, and DCAA standards. Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports. Manage indirect rate structures and provide support for pricing and cost proposal development. Prepare invoices for federal contracts, including cost-plus, T&M, and fixed-price formats. Maintain and support DCAA-compliant accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Deltek, Unanet). Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning. Prepare audit packages and support external audits, including incurred cost submissions and SF 1408 pre-award audits. Advise leadership on financial risks, cash flow, and strategic tax planning. Maintain organized and compliant financial records for all active and closed contracts.

Required Qualifications:

Active CPA license. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years supporting a government contractor. Proficiency with QuickBooks. Strong attention to detail and analytical skills. Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
