A boiler technician cum operator is responsible for safely operating, monitoring, and maintaining boiler systems and auxiliary equipment to produce steam or heat for a facility. This dual role involves performing both the day-to-day tasks of a boiler operator and carrying out technical maintenance and repairs as a technician. Key duties include monitoring pressure and temperature, conducting routine inspections, performing minor and major repairs, troubleshooting malfunctions, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Operation:
Safely operate and control boiler systems, adjusting controls for optimal temperature and pressure to meet facility demands.
Monitoring:
Continuously monitor gauges, meters, and control systems to ensure efficient and safe operation.
Maintenance & Repair:
Perform routine maintenance, including cleaning and inspections, as well as diagnosing and performing minor to major repairs on boilers, piping, and auxiliary equipment.
Troubleshooting:
Identify and resolve operational issues and equipment malfunctions to prevent downtime and safety hazards.
Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate logs and records of daily operations, readings, and maintenance activities.
Safety Compliance:
Adhere to strict safety procedures, regulations, and protocols to ensure the safe operation of the boiler system and compliance with environmental standards.
Auxiliary Equipment Management:
Operate and maintain associated equipment such as pumps, fans, and water treatment systems.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Knowledge:
A strong understanding of various boiler systems, their components, and associated auxiliary equipment.
Mechanical Aptitude:
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform repairs on complex machinery.
Attention to Detail:
Meticulous observation and recording of operational data and readings.
Problem-Solving:
Ability to quickly identify and resolve operational problems.
Communication:
Collaborate effectively with other team members and report operational status and issues.
Certifications:
Boiler operator certification or license as required by local regulations is often mandatory.
