The Body Shop Manager oversees all operations of the collision repair department, ensuring efficient workflow, high-quality repairs, profitability, and excellent customer satisfaction. This role manages technicians, estimators, and support staff while maintaining compliance with safety and manufacturer standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Management
Oversee daily operations of the body shop, including scheduling, repair processes, and workflow management.
Ensure timely and accurate completion of all repair jobs.
Monitor work quality to meet OEM and insurance standards.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Financial & Performance Management
Develop and manage department budgets, including labor, parts, and overhead costs.
Set and achieve profitability and productivity targets.
Review and approve repair estimates, final invoices, and insurance claims.
Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as cycle time, CSI (Customer Satisfaction Index), and gross profit margin.
Team Leadership
Hire, train, and mentor body shop technicians, painters, estimators, and administrative staff.
Conduct performance evaluations and implement improvement plans as needed.
Foster a positive, team-oriented culture with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.
Customer & Insurance Relations
Ensure excellent customer service and timely communication regarding repair status.
Work closely with insurance adjusters and third-party partners to resolve issues and expedite claims.
Handle customer concerns and complaints professionally.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure all repair work complies with OEM procedures, environmental laws, and safety regulations.
Maintain up-to-date certifications, tools, and training for all staff.
Qualifications:
Minimum 2-7 years of experience in body shop or collision center operations, including 2+ years in a management or supervisory role.
Strong technical knowledge of collision repair processes, refinishing, and insurance estimating systems (CCC ONE, Audatex, Mitchell, etc.).
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Proven ability to manage budgets, meet production goals, and deliver high customer satisfaction.
I-CAR Gold Class, ASE, or OEM certifications preferred.
