Mission of the Role
The Biopolymer Lead will drive the research, development, and prototyping of sustainable food?service products such as cutlery, beverage cups, and related packaging. This role focuses on material innovation, laboratory testing, and facilitating technology transfer from lab scale to pilot and production environments.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead R&D initiatives in biomaterials, biopolymers for food?service applications.
  • Develop prototypes for cutlery, beverage cups and other sustainable food?service products.
  • Conduct material testing, barrier performance evaluation, and process trials in collaboration with sampling & prototyping teams.
  • Work with equipment suppliers and internal engineering to translate lab concepts into manufacturable solutions.
  • Document formulations, process parameters, and technical reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Benchmark global innovations in biodegradable products and recommend adoption pathways.
  • Support industrial trials for product scale?up and quality validation.
  • Ensure compliance with food?contact safety, regulatory norms, and performance standards.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
Master's or Ph.D. in one of the following:
  • Materials Science / Fiber Science / Polymer Science
  • Chemical Engineering / Pulp & Paper Technology
  • Sustainable Packaging / Industrial Biotechnology / Green Chemistry
  • Related disciplines with strong R&D focus
Experience
  • 4+ years of R&D experience with a strong product-development track record
  • Exposure to pilot-to-commercial scale-up and cross-functional collaboration
  • Experience in sustainable materials, packaging innovation, or chemical formulations
  • Good understanding of regulatory compliance, IP, and commercialization processes
Skills
  • Knowledge of paper science, biopolymers, and food-contact materials
  • Experience with mechanical properties, barrier coatings, and testing protocols
  • Hands-on with extrusion, moulding, and prototyping equipment
  • Familiar with lab testing tools and pilot-scale operations
  • Ability to convert research into manufacturable specs
  • Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills
