The Head of Biomedical Engineering is responsible for overseeing all biomedical engineering activities within the organization, ensuring the safe, effective, and economical operation of medical equipment. This role includes leading the biomedical engineering team, managing equipment maintenance programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and coordinating technology acquisition and lifecycle management to support clinical and research operations.
Key Responsibilities:Leadership & Management:
Lead, supervise, and develop the biomedical engineering team.
Establish department goals, policies, and procedures aligned with the organization's strategic objectives.
Plan and manage departmental budgets, including capital equipment purchases and service contracts.
Conduct performance evaluations and training programs for technical staff.
Equipment Management:
Oversee installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of medical and laboratory equipment.
Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all medical equipment.
Ensure equipment safety, reliability, and compliance with applicable standards (e.g., ISO, NABH, JCI).
Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance schedules.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety:
Ensure compliance with hospital policies, local regulations, and international standards for medical device management.
Maintain accurate maintenance logs and documentation for audit and accreditation purposes.
Conduct regular safety checks and risk assessments for biomedical devices.
Procurement & Vendor Management:
Evaluate and recommend new biomedical technologies.
Collaborate with procurement teams to assess vendors, negotiate contracts, and ensure cost-effective acquisitions.
Oversee installation, testing, and acceptance of new equipment.
Innovation & Development:
Support clinical departments with technical expertise on equipment use and optimization.
Participate in technology assessment, cost-benefit analysis, and research projects.
Stay updated with advancements in biomedical technology and integrate improvements where applicable.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics, or related field.
Minimum of
8-12 years
of experience in biomedical engineering, with at least
3-5 years
in a managerial role.
In-depth knowledge of hospital equipment management, maintenance practices, and regulatory compliance.
Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
Familiarity with healthcare standards (NABH, ISO 13485, CE, FDA) preferred.
