Job Description

IP billing roles involve managing and processing billing for inpatient (IP) services in healthcare, with key responsibilities including creating accurate patient bills, submitting claims, managing insurance pre-authorizations and payments, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. They act as a liaison between patients, clinical staff, and insurance companies, handling inquiries, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring timely revenue collection before patient discharge. Key roles and responsibilities

Billing and claim processing:

Generate and finalize accurate bills for inpatient services, including room, medicine, and procedure charges. Submit accurate and timely claims to insurance companies and third-party administrators (TPAs). Ensure charge capture from various departments like wards, pharmacy, and labs is accurate.

Insurance and payment management:

Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain necessary pre-authorizations and approvals. Process cashless and TPA billing, ensuring adherence to approved tariffs and package inclusions/exclusions. Manage payment collection, including ensuring payment is received before patient discharge.

Compliance and record keeping:

Maintain accurate and detailed billing records and electronic health records (EHR). Ensure compliance with all relevant billing and insurance regulations, such as Medicare/Medicaid rules.

Coordination and communication:

Coordinate with clinical departments (like nursing stations, OT) and non-clinical teams (like the discharge desk) to ensure billing accuracy. Respond to patient and stakeholder billing inquiries and resolve issues professionally.
