Benchmarking Engineer



About the Role



The Benchmarking team is focused on delivering benchmarks for the highly demanded solutions. The team publishes the benchmark papers and are available to the Sales, Marketing team and our customers. The Benchmark Engineer will carry out performance testing and engineering activities on large scale distributed solutions on the on-prem and public cloud environments followed by creating scorecards and a benchmark publication

What You Will Do



Work in collaboration with Compute Services management and domain experts in sales and worldwide marketing to define use case scenarios that reflect how our customers use our software products, including common customer scenarios which represent the highest propensity in three environments (small, medium and large). Leverage this information to develop a comprehensive project definition including test suites, data, users, execution methods, planned deliverables (performance briefs, best practices, etc.) and timelines. Utilize technical knowledge, research and collaboration (partners, peers, sales, field consultants, etc.) to execute benchmarks and take advantage of their experience to review results, resolve issues, etc. Use abstract analysis (critical thinking) to evaluate results and adjust test approach accordingly to achieve expected performance ensuring comprehensive, repeatable scenarios that showcase stable quality products. Use internal and external tools and templates to author formal performance briefs, best practices and/or technical white papers. Leverage the domain experience to assist sales in addressing customer performance questions. Works to understand and communicate best practice methodologies via publications. Proactively work with team lead and project stakeholders to remove barriers keeping projects on schedule. Provide weekly updates to team leads and CDS management. Support peers by reviewing publications/results and working in collaboration to overcome individual challenges, achieve team goals and be a team player.

What You Need



Overall 5+ years of experience. Strong experience in performance testing large scale web-based distributed applications & working on a SaaS, PaaS, or Cloud Infrastructure product/solution. System administration experience on Unix and Windows (Redhat Linux and to a lesser extent, Windows Server 2008 through 2012R2 Server infrastructure (Server models, chipsets, cores, memory, threading) and associated performance options and communication protocols (TCP/IP, ARP, etc.) Diagnosing and tuning for system performance (NMON, FIO, PerfMon, SysInternals, IOSTAT, IOMeter, NETSTAT, VMSTAT, TOP, etc.) Knowledge and basic experience on storage infrastructure (Hadoop, SAN, NAS, NFS, etc.) and associated protocols (FCOE, Fiber Channel, CIFS, JBOD, etc.) Scripting/Programming including VuGen and one or more of the following - SQL, KORN, BASH, PowerShell, C, Python, etc. Solid experience in performance testing tools like - Microfocus Load Runner with multiple protocols (Web HTTP or Truclient), JMeter and/or Ranorex. Strong working knowledge on APM tool like AppDynamics, Dynatrace, Datadog, etc. and other tools such as Grafana, Kibana, etc. Understanding of Containers and Cloud computing concepts - Kubernetes, cloud providers like AWS, Google, Azure, etc.
