Bag Merchant (Handicraft & Beaded Bags)

Job Summary



The Bag Merchant is responsible for handling merchandising activities for handcrafted bags--especially

beaded, embroidered, embellished, and artisanal bags

. The role involves product development, sampling coordination, costing, order execution, vendor management, and timely communication with buyers. Strong knowledge of handicraft techniques and artisan processes is essential.

Key Responsibilities



1. Product Development



Develop new designs for beaded and handcrafted bags based on buyer trends and market requirements. Coordinate with artisans, karigars, and sample teams to execute beading, handwork, and embellishment styles. Review tech packs, artwork, and beading layouts for accuracy. Ensure samples meet aesthetic, quality, and cost expectations.

2. Sampling & Approvals



Follow up for prototypes, PP samples, and production samples. Maintain sample trackers and ensure samples reach buyers on time. Incorporate buyer feedback and ensure required modifications are communicated clearly to artisans.

3. Costing & Order Confirmation



Prepare cost sheets, estimate labor costs for handwork, and evaluate material consumption (beads, fabrics, linings, accessories). Negotiate pricing with vendors/artisans to achieve target margins. Support in order booking and confirmations with buyers.

4. Production Coordination



Monitor production processes--particularly hand-beading, embroidery, and assembly stages. Track raw material procurement such as beads, sequins, threads, fabrics, chains, and hardware. Ensure adherence to production timelines and quality standards. Troubleshoot delays or quality issues in coordination with QA and production teams.

5. Buyer Communication



Maintain timely and professional communication with buyers regarding developments, approvals, and order updates. Prepare and share TNA (Time & Action) calendars. Handle queries about materials, techniques, and feasibility.

6. Vendor/Artisan Management



Work with external vendors, handicraft clusters, and artisan groups. Conduct visits to workshops to monitor handwork quality and progress. Maintain strong relationships for long-term sourcing partnerships.

7. Documentation & Reporting



Maintain development files, tech sheets, costing summaries, and order documentation. Prepare WIP reports, shipment schedules, and production status updates. Coordinate with logistics for dispatch and shipment readiness.

Qualifications & Skills



Graduate in Fashion/Design/Textiles, or relevant merchandising discipline.

2-5 years of experience in handicraft bags, beaded and embellished bags.

Strong understanding of hand-beading techniques, embroidery styles, materials, and artisan processes. Good knowledge of MS Excel, TNA tracking, and merchandising documentation. Ability to manage multiple orders and follow up with artisan groups. Creative eye for design, details, and trend awareness.

Pay: ?25,000.00 - ?45,000.00 per month
