Role Overview

We're looking for a Backend Software Engineer with 2+ years of hands-on development experience to help evolve Sympro, our AI-enabled SaaS platform for systematic literature review and research management.

You will work primarily on the Go backend while collaborating closely with frontend engineers, AI pipeline developers, and product leads. This role includes backend feature development, API design, integrations with Python-based AI processors, and occasional involvement across devops, file pipelines, and admin/frontend integrations.

This is an excellent role for an engineer who wants to grow their ownership, ship meaningful features, and work across multiple layers of a modern SaaS product.

What You'll Do

Backend Engineering (Primary)

Design, build, and maintain Go-based services and REST/JSON APIs using clean architecture patterns. Model and optimize MongoDB schemas, indexes, and aggregation pipelines for performance and scalability. Build secure, multi-tenant backend functionality including auth, session handling, and safe file workflows. Integrate Python FastAPI services for AI screening, data processing, and search pipelines. Work with Google Cloud Run & Cloud Storage for deployments, signed URL flows, and reliable file handling. Improve system observability through structured logs, metrics, tracing, and clear error semantics. Write automated tests (table-driven Go tests, mocks/fakes) and participate in code reviews and documentation.

Cross Functional collaboration

Partner with the frontend team (Vue 3 / Quasar / JS) to shape API contracts and admin dashboard functionality. Collaborate with product to refine workflows for research projects, screening, usage reporting, and cost visibility. Support integration of AI-driven jobs, orchestration logic, and usage/cost monitoring.

DevOps & Platform

Contribute to Cloud Run configuration, CI/CD improvements, and environment setup. Assist in maintaining Firebase Hosting rewrites, secrets management, and reproducible environment configs.

What You Bring

Required

2+ years of experience building production services in Go. Strong understanding of REST API design and backend fundamentals. Experience working with MongoDB (schemas, indexes, aggregations). Experience deploying or working with services on Google Cloud Run and Cloud Storage. Familiarity integrating Python FastAPI services or similar microservice patterns. Basic JavaScript exposure to collaborate effectively with the Vue/Quasar frontend team. Comfortable working in fast-paced, product-oriented environments.

Preferred

Experience with authentication/security patterns (JWT cookies, CORS/CSRF handling, rate limiting). Experience with multi-tenant SaaS systems. Exposure to AI/ML pipelines or API-driven AI tasks. Familiarity with Firebase Hosting or similar cloud deployment setups. Strong testing habits and debugging skills
