Backend Engineer

, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and scaling our platform's

GraphQL APIs

and backend services. Your work will directly impact the security, performance, and compliance of our system, ensuring HIPAA and GDPR adherence while enabling advanced AI-driven features through the integration of the

OpenAI API

Roles and Responsibilities:

Design, build, and maintain scalable

GraphQL APIs

with a

MongoDB

(

NoSQL

) backend to support our mobile platform. Develop and manage

AWS

cloud infrastructure and backend services ensuring high availability and security. Ensure strict compliance with data privacy regulations including

HIPAA

,

GDPR

, and other relevant standards for handling protected health information (PHI). Integrate and maintain

OpenAI API

functionalities to enable AI-powered features within the platform. Collaborate closely with mobile and frontend development teams to deliver seamless application experiences. Monitor system performance, troubleshoot backend issues, and optimize for scalability and reliability. Document backend architecture, coding standards, compliance processes, and internal best practices. Assist in planning and implementing event-driven architectures using

Kafka

or similar technologies at later stages.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 5+ years of professional experience in backend development, preferably in health technology or related industries. Proven expertise in developing and maintaining

GraphQL APIs

with

MongoDB

or other

NoSQL

databases. Strong proficiency in

TypeScript

and backend service development. Hands-on experience with

AWS

cloud services and infrastructure management. Experience integrating third-party APIs, especially

OpenAI API

or similar AI tools. Solid understanding of data privacy laws and compliance requirements such as

HIPAA

and

GDPR

. Familiarity with event-driven architecture and messaging systems like

Kafka

is a plus. Experience with vector databases or AI data pipelines is highly desirable.
