Backend Engineer (Node.js, MongoDB, APIs) - Fintech Platform

Type: Full-time contract (3-6 months, potential to move to permanent)
Location: Gurugram
Time zone overlap: Australia / Asia preferred

About the Role

We're an Australian-based fintech startup building a data-driven finance platform focused on intelligent applications, lender eligibility, and automation.

The frontend is largely established. We're now looking for a backend-focused engineer to take ownership of our data models, APIs, and platform logic as we scale.

You'll work directly with the founder on architecture decisions and play a key role in shaping a system designed for long-term growth, AI integration, and complex financial workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Design and maintain MongoDB schemas for applications, guarantors, assets, lender products, and eligibility logic

Build clean, scalable Node.js APIs (Express or similar)

Implement autosave logic, partial form persistence, and validation layers

Ensure audit-safe data handling and consistency

Optimise query performance, indexing, and data normalization

Collaborate with frontend developers to define clear API contracts

Prepare the backend for AI-assisted form parsing and lender ingestion pipelines

Write clean, well-documented, production-ready code

About You

3+ years professional experience with Node.js and MongoDB

Strong experience designing real-world data models (not just CRUD APIs)

Comfortable owning backend architecture decisions

Experience building APIs consumed by complex frontend applications

Familiarity with Mongoose or similar ODMs

Understanding of authentication, authorization, and API versioning

Startup mindset -- pragmatic, outcome-driven, and able to work autonomously

Clear English communication and documentation skills

Nice to Have

Experience in fintech, lending, or financial services platforms

Exposure to rules engines or eligibility / decision systems

Previous AI or machine learning integration experience
