Job Description


Job SummaryStrategyWealth and Retail Banking (WRB)

  • Execute the Group ESG (including Climate) and Reputational Risk (ESGR) integration within WRB
  • Support and lead on RCSA reviews regarding WRB, from a ESGR RFO perspective.
  • Support and lead the second-line review and challenge of Sustainable Finance and Sustainability-related activities in driving the management of greenwashing risk for WRB
  • Provide inputs to the Group's strategic risk appetite metric calculation all metrics pertaining WRB portfolios.
  • Second-line review and challenge of ESGR reviews for adequacy and accuracy of the first-line's assessment of ESGR for medium and high-risk in-scope WRB clients
  • Second-line review and challenge of Climate Risk Assessments for SME Banking clients
  • Review and challenge of WRB Residential Mortgages related NZ targets and measurement, the Group's own Net zero emission targets and progress, aligning with industry benchmarks.
  • Support continuous training initiatives for WRB relationship managers, credit analysts, 1st line process owners and 2nd line to ensure ESGR risk embedding into WRB
Reporting and Disclosures
  • Delivery and review/ challenge of portfolio-level risk measures for WRB
  • Support the review, challenge and provide input on internal and external disclosures such as Climate Risk-related financial disclosures, including those set out by the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and other reporting frameworks such as ISSB and CSRD as required.
Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness
  • While being focused on climate risk assessment, keep a 'think client' hat in any risk developments; consider how the risk assessments contribute to helping the clients build a more resilient business model.
  • Broad awareness and understanding of the bank's business model and risk profile.
  • Communicate confidently with senior stakeholders, present topics in working groups and other committee meetings such as the Wealth and Retail Banking Risk Committee.
Processes
  • Evaluate relevant existing controls and contribute to designing new controls as required.
Risk Management
  • Act quickly and decisively when any risk and control weakness becomes apparent and ensure they are addressed within an appropriate timeframe and escalated through the relevant committees.
  • Uphold the integrity of risk/return decisions, by challenging business to demonstrate that risk origination and control decisions are properly informed and consistent with the reputational and sustainability risk strategy and risk appetite.
Governance
  • Contribute to overall governance mechanisms (including committee oversight and individual approval authorities) for ESGR risk management.
  • Ensuring that relevant governance documents are up-to-date and relevant, on an ongoing basis
Regulatory & Business Conduct
  • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group's Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank.   • Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.

Other Responsibilities
  • Embed Here for good and Group's brand and values in the ESGR team; Perform other responsibilities assigned under Group, Country, Business or Functional policies and procedures; Multiple functions (double hats): promote risk governance, support RFO in internal and external disclosures including TCFD requirements for Group and countries
Skills and Experience
  • Familiarity with ESGR risk management (e.g. tools and methodologies)
  • Data preparation and review skills
  • Ownership and accountability for deliverables / action oriented
  • Ability to engage and collaborate with stakeholders at various levels across functions and geographies
  • Proven track record in both review/ challenge and whilst working in partnership with the first line of defence
Qualifications
  • Market Knowledge: 8-12 years of strong experience in Climate Risk, ESG and Reputational Risk and/or Credit Risk Management
  • Proactive self-starter, ability to quickly assimilate and analyse large amounts of information across a variety of topics
  • Clear and concise communicator, able to explain complex matters in a simple and intuitive manner
  • Demonstrate understanding of and commitment to the Group's core values.
  • Ownership mindset, able to think creatively and be open to new ideas
  • Able to work with tight deadlines and multiple demands
  • Good knowledge of banking risk management and standards
  • Understanding of Wealth and Retail Banking portfolios and products
  • Proven ability to partner and collaborate across an organisation, support facilitation, with the ability to build a strong internal network across all levels of the organisation
  • Strong experience in MS Excel and Power Point
