The Senior Automobile Electrician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining electrical and electronic systems in various types of vehicles. This role requires advanced technical expertise, the ability to troubleshoot complex electrical faults, supervise junior technicians, and ensure all work meets safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities1. Diagnostics & Repairs
Conduct advanced electrical diagnostics using scanners, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other specialized tools.
Repair and maintain vehicle electrical systems including wiring, lighting, ignition, charging systems, and electronic control units (ECUs).
Diagnose and fix issues with ABS, airbags, immobilizers, sensors, CAN-BUS networks, and infotainment systems.
Calibrate electronic modules and perform programming or re-coding when required.
2. Preventive Maintenance
Perform routine inspections on electrical systems to identify potential issues.
Ensure all vehicle electrical components are functioning efficiently and safely.
3. Installation
Install new electrical accessories such as alarms, tracking systems, sound systems, LED lighting, and aftermarket devices.
Upgrade or retrofit vehicle electronic systems.
4. Supervision & Mentorship
Lead and mentor junior electricians and technicians.
Provide technical guidance, training, and performance feedback.
Assign tasks and ensure work quality and timely completion.
5. Documentation & Reporting
Prepare detailed diagnostic reports and job cards.
Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and test outcomes.
Communicate clearly with service advisors and customers regarding issues and solutions.
6. Safety & Compliance
Ensure all electrical work is completed within safety and industry standards.
Follow workshop safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
Stay updated on new vehicle technologies and diagnostic procedures.
Qualifications & Requirements
Diploma or Certificate in Auto Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
5-10+ years of experience as an Automobile Electrician (at least 2 years in a senior/lead role).
Strong knowledge of modern vehicle electronics and computerized diagnostic systems.
Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and technical manuals.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and under pressure.
