The Automation Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing automated systems, machinery, and processes to improve efficiency, quality, and productivity. The role involves creating detailed engineering designs, selecting automation components, programming controllers, validating systems, and supporting installation and commissioning activities.
Key Responsibilities1. Design & Development
Design automated systems, machines, jigs, and fixtures based on project requirements.
Develop 2D/3D models, layouts, and engineering drawings using CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, etc.).
Select suitable sensors, actuators, drives, conveyors, robots, PLCs, HMIs, and other automation components.
2. Control System Engineering
Develop PLC/HMI/SCADA logic, control panels, electrical wiring diagrams, and I/O lists.
Integrate robots, vision systems, and embedded control modules where required.
Ensure compliance with relevant electrical and safety standards.
3. Project Execution
Prepare BOM (Bill of Materials), cost estimation, and project timelines.
Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and internal teams during machine fabrication.
Support machine assembly, FAT, SAT, and commissioning at customer sites.
4. Testing & Validation
Conduct system testing, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and performance optimization.
Validate machine functionality, safety interlocks, and cycle-time improvements.
Document test results, design revisions, and change-control records.
5. Continuous Improvement
Develop and implement automation improvements for productivity, quality, and cost reduction.
Identify new technologies and evaluate innovative automation solutions.
6. Documentation & Reporting
Prepare technical documents, design specifications, user manuals, and training materials.
Provide technical support and training to operators and maintenance teams.
Required SkillsTechnical Skills
Strong knowledge of automation systems, machine design, industrial robotics, and control engineering.
Proficient in CAD design (SolidWorks/Creo/AutoCAD).
Hands-on experience in PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Omron).
Understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics, motors, drives, and electrical circuits.
Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, Profinet).
Knowledge of manufacturing processes (automotive, FMCG, electronics, etc.).
