Conduct detailed pre-anesthesia assessments for patients scheduled for cardiac procedures.
Review medical history, diagnostic reports, echocardiography, and lab investigations.
Assess risk factors and optimize patient condition prior to surgery.
Discuss anesthesia plans with the surgical and cardiac team.
2. Intraoperative Anesthesia Management
Provide anesthesia for cardiac surgeries such as CABG, valve replacement/repair, aortic surgeries, congenital heart surgeries, and heart transplants (if applicable).
Manage cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) anesthesia requirements.
Monitor vital parameters using advanced cardiac monitoring tools (TEE, arterial line, pulmonary artery catheter, etc.).
Ensure hemodynamic stability during induction, maintenance, and emergence from anesthesia.
Manage blood products, fluids, and vasoactive medications.
3. Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE)
Perform and interpret intraoperative TEE to assist surgical decision-making.
Document findings and communicate with surgeons.
4. Postoperative Care
Oversee patient transfer to the cardiac ICU with appropriate ventilation and monitoring.
Participate in postoperative rounds and manage pain control, hemodynamics, and ventilation needs.
Provide support in managing complications such as arrhythmias, bleeding, or instability.
5. Critical Care Responsibilities
Collaborate with intensivists in managing patients in the cardiac critical care unit.
Participate in emergency cardiac resuscitations and code blue activities.
