The Assistant Sales Manager is responsible for increasing sales of imported fruit products, ensuring timely delivery to the end consumer, and managing collections from all debtors. The role entails a combination of active sales, coordination across supply chain and logistics, and diligent credit control.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Development and Sales:
Identify and acquire new customers in retail, wholesale, and distribution channels for imported fruits.
Meet or exceed monthly and annual sales targets through effective prospecting, customer meetings, and closing deals.
Maintain ongoing relationships with existing customers to maximize repeat sales and upselling opportunities.
Prepare and deliver compelling sales presentations to potential clients, tailored to their specific needs.
Product Delivery and Distribution:
Coordinate with logistics and warehouse teams to ensure efficient delivery of products to all customers.
Track orders from warehouse dispatch to customer receipt, proactively resolving any delivery issues or delays.
Monitor product quality and shelf life to ensure customer satisfaction upon receipt.
Credit Control and Collections:
Maintain up-to-date records of all customer accounts, outstanding payments, and payment terms.
Follow up systematically with customers to ensure timely collections of receivables, minimizing overdue accounts.
Escalate chronic defaulters as per company policy and coordinate with Accounts for necessary action.
Market & Customer Knowledge:
Keep abreast of local market trends, competitor activities, and customer preferences in the fruits sector.
Gather regular feedback from the market and relay insights to management for continuous product and service improvement.
Reporting and Documentation:
Prepare accurate and timely sales reports, collection status updates, and customer visit logs for review by management.
Maintain documentation related to agreements, deliveries, and payment receipts for audit and compliance purposes.
Cross-functional Coordination:
Work closely with import, logistics, and inventory control teams to ensure stock availability as per forecasted sales.
Liaise with the marketing team for the execution of promotional activities and customer engagement campaigns.
Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related field preferred
2+ years' sales experience, preferably in FMCG or fast-moving perishables/imports
Proven track record in sales target achievement and collections
Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills
High level of diligence in documentation and process compliance
Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with ERP/CRM is a plus
Ability to travel locally for customer visits
