A. Description




The Associate QA Engineer is a key member of the development team, responsible for supporting the quality of software releases through manual and automated testing activities. In this role, the Associate QA Engineer works closely with software engineers and Product Management to validate application functionality across development, staging, and production environments.


This position is primarily focused on executing defined test cases, verifying defect fixes, and identifying potential regressions or unintended behavior. The Associate QA Engineer also assists in maintaining test documentation and automated tests as the application evolves.


The Associate QA Engineer functions as part of a cross-functional agile team and follows established QA processes, tools, and standards. Over time, the role provides opportunities to expand testing skills and take on additional responsibilities in support of continuous improvement of product quality.


B. Essential Functions:




1. Executes manual functional testing across development, staging, and production environments to validate application behavior against defined requirements and acceptance criteria.


2. Works closely with software engineers to test new features and fixes in the development environment and provide timely, actionable feedback.


3. Re-tests resolved defects to confirm fixes and identify potential regressions or unintended side effects.


4. Executes defined test cases and assists in creating, updating, and maintaining test cases as application functionality or requirements change.


5. Assists with maintaining and updating automated tests using tools such as Playwright and Checkly, primarily by modifying existing tests to address application changes or test failures.


6. Reviews and analyzes test failures (manual and automated) to help determine whether issues are related to application defects, test data, or test automation behavior.


7. Tracks testing progress and results and communicates testing status, risks, and findings to the development team and Product Management.


8. Collaborates with Product Management by providing testing insights that support defect prioritization and release readiness decisions.


9. Follows established QA processes, standards, and tools, and actively contributes to continuous improvement of testing practices.


10. Participates as a member of a cross-functional agile development team, including involvement in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives as appropriate.


C. Education (minimum requirements/equivalent):

Bachelor's degree in a technical or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and practical experience.


D. Knowledge & Skills:




Required


Foundational understanding of software testing concepts, including functional testing, defect reporting, and regression testing.

Strong attention to detail and ability to identify inconsistencies, edge cases, and unintended behavior during testing.

Ability to execute defined test cases accurately and consistently and to document results clearly.

Basic understanding of web application behavior and technologies, including HTML and CSS.

Ability to work with existing automated tests using tools such as Playwright or similar end-to-end testing frameworks, with guidance.

Familiarity with defect tracking and project management tools (e.g., Jira or similar).

Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate testing status, findings, and risks to technical and non-technical team members.

Ability to manage multiple testing tasks and priorities while meeting established timelines.

Willingness and ability to learn new tools, systems, and processes in a fast-paced development environment.

Nice to Have




Exposure to automated testing tools such as Mabl, Playwright, Checkly, or similar platforms.

Basic scripting experience (e.g., JavaScript or similar) for maintaining or updating automated tests.

Familiarity with test case management tools or structured test documentation.

Experience testing web-based applications across multiple environments.

Basic understanding of API testing concepts or tools (e.g., Postman).
