The Associate Professor in Microbiology will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, guiding research, managing laboratory and diagnostic services, and contributing to departmental academic and administrative functions. The role demands expertise in clinical microbiology, infection control, and diagnostic methodologies, with a strong commitment to academic excellence and research.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching and Academic Duties
Deliver high-quality lectures, practical sessions, and tutorials in
Microbiology
for
undergraduate (MBBS, BDS, Nursing, Allied Health)
and
postgraduate (MD Microbiology)
students.
Supervise and mentor postgraduate students in academic, research, and diagnostic laboratory work.
Develop and update course content, laboratory manuals, and assessment materials as per
NMC guidelines
.
Conduct internal assessments, practical examinations, and viva voce.
Organize departmental academic programs, CMEs, and workshops.
Participate in curriculum design and innovation in teaching-learning methodologies.
Diagnostic and Clinical Responsibilities
Supervise and ensure efficient functioning of microbiology diagnostic laboratories, including
bacteriology, virology, mycology, parasitology, serology, and molecular microbiology
sections.
Oversee infection prevention and control (IPC) activities and hospital infection surveillance programs.
Collaborate with clinicians to provide accurate laboratory diagnoses and antimicrobial susceptibility data.
Ensure adherence to
biosafety standards, NABL/NABH protocols
, and quality assurance in laboratory operations.
Research and Publications
Conduct independent and collaborative research in medical microbiology, immunology, or infectious diseases.
Guide postgraduate dissertations and research projects.
Publish research papers in indexed national and international journals as per
NMC requirements
.
Apply for research funding and promote a culture of evidence-based practice.
Administrative and Leadership Responsibilities
Assist the Head of Department in planning, coordinating, and supervising academic and laboratory activities.
Mentor Assistant Professors, Demonstrators, and Laboratory Technicians.
Participate in institutional committees, accreditation processes, and academic audits.
Contribute to departmental reports, inventory management, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Qualifications and RequirementsEducational Qualifications
Essential:
MD (Microbiology) or equivalent postgraduate qualification recognized by the
National Medical Commission (NMC)
.
Desirable:
Ph.D. in Microbiology or fellowship in Clinical Microbiology / Infection Control.
Experience (As per NMC Norms)
Minimum
5 years of teaching experience
as Assistant Professor in the subject after obtaining the postgraduate degree.
Minimum
2 research publications
in indexed journals as per latest NMC guidelines.
Experience in supervising postgraduate students and managing diagnostic laboratory services.
Skills and Competencies
In-depth knowledge of medical and clinical microbiology, diagnostic techniques, and infection control practices.
