The Associate Professor in General Medicine is a mid-senior level faculty member responsible for leading academic instruction, overseeing clinical services, mentoring junior faculty and postgraduate students, and actively participating in departmental administration and research. The position requires demonstrated excellence in teaching, research contributions, and clinical acumen.
Key Responsibilities:Teaching Responsibilities:
Deliver lectures, clinical case discussions, and practical teaching for undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MD/DNB) students.
Supervise teaching-learning activities of Assistant Professors, Senior Residents, and Tutors.
Guide postgraduate students in thesis development, clinical research, and academic presentations.
Participate in curriculum planning, assessment design, and examination duties (internal and university).
Clinical Responsibilities:
Provide expert clinical services in OPDs, inpatient wards, ICUs, and emergency settings.
Supervise and mentor clinical teams including Residents and medical interns.
Ensure adherence to standard treatment protocols and patient safety norms.
Oversee clinical documentation, discharge summaries, and medico-legal compliance.
Research and Academic Contributions:
Lead and supervise research projects and publications in indexed journals.
Encourage faculty and students in research methodology and grant applications.
Present at state, national, and international medical conferences.
Maintain an active academic portfolio with at least
2-4 publications
as per NMC/UGC norms.
Administrative Duties:
Assist the HOD in departmental planning, audits, quality improvement, and accreditation processes.
Participate in institutional committees (ethics, curriculum, medical education unit, etc.).
Coordinate CMEs, academic workshops, and outreach activities.
Contribute to faculty appraisal, resource planning, and academic records management.
Eligibility Criteria (As per NMC Guidelines):
Educational Qualification:
MD or DNB in General Medicine from an NMC-recognized institution.
Experience:
Minimum of
5 years of total teaching experience
, including at least
4 years as Assistant Professor
.
Must fulfill criteria related to
academic publications
in indexed journals (as per NMC rules at the time of appointment).
Registration:
Valid registration with State Medical Council / National Medical Commission (NMC).
