Position Summary

The Associate Professor in General Medicine will play a key role in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, supervising clinical training, providing patient care, and conducting research in the field of internal medicine. The incumbent will also assist in departmental leadership, curriculum development, and mentoring of junior faculty.

This position requires a clinician-educator with strong expertise in internal medicine, proven teaching and research experience, and commitment to advancing medical education and patient care.

Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching and Academic Duties

Deliver high-quality lectures, clinical demonstrations, and bedside teaching in

General Medicine

for undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MD) students. Design and update course content, lesson plans, and assessment tools as per

NMC guidelines

. Supervise postgraduate residents in clinical work, research, and thesis preparation. Conduct internal assessments, examinations, and viva voce for students. Contribute to departmental academic activities such as CMEs, conferences, and workshops.

Clinical Responsibilities

Provide expert patient care in inpatient and outpatient departments of General Medicine. Supervise and guide junior doctors, residents, and interns in diagnosis, management, and patient care. Participate in on-call duties, ward rounds, and interdepartmental consultations. Ensure high standards of clinical documentation, ethics, and professionalism. Assist in developing clinical protocols and quality improvement initiatives.

Research and Publications

Conduct independent and collaborative research projects in internal medicine and related fields. Publish findings in peer-reviewed national and international journals. Guide postgraduate students in dissertation work and research methodologies. Apply for research grants and participate in institutional or multi-center studies.

Administrative and Leadership Responsibilities

Assist the Head of Department in planning, scheduling, and supervising departmental activities. Mentor Assistant Professors, Senior Residents, and Tutors in teaching and clinical work. Participate in faculty committees, accreditation processes, and institutional governance. Promote interdepartmental collaboration and community outreach programs.

Qualifications and RequirementsEducational Qualifications

Essential:

MD (General Medicine) or equivalent postgraduate qualification in Internal Medicine recognized by the

NMC

(formerly MCI).

Desirable:

Ph.D. or additional subspecialty training (e.g., Cardiology, Endocrinology, Infectious Diseases).

Experience (as per NMC norms)

Minimum

5 years of teaching experience

as Assistant Professor in the subject after obtaining the postgraduate degree. Evidence of having guided postgraduate research or served as co-guide for dissertations. Minimum

2 research publications

in indexed journals (as per NMC requirements).

Skills and Competencies

Excellent clinical and diagnostic skills in internal medicine. Strong teaching, mentoring, and communication abilities. Ability to integrate modern teaching aids and digital learning platforms. Leadership and administrative capabilities. Commitment to ethical medical practice and continuous learning.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated record of research grants, publications, or conference presentations. Experience in developing clinical protocols or evidence-based medicine programs. Active participation in professional bodies or academic societies.
