The Associate Professor in Anatomy is responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical and allied health students, guiding research, and contributing to the academic and administrative development of the department. The role demands strong expertise in human anatomy, embryology, histology, and neuroanatomy, as well as leadership in academic excellence, research, and innovation in medical education.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching and Academic Duties
Deliver structured lectures, practical sessions, and small-group tutorials in
gross anatomy, histology, embryology, and neuroanatomy
for undergraduate (MBBS, BDS, Nursing, Allied Health) and postgraduate students (MD Anatomy).
Prepare and update course materials, dissection manuals, histology slides, and learning aids as per
NMC guidelines
.
Supervise postgraduate students in teaching, dissections, and departmental duties.
Conduct internal assessments, viva voce, and practical examinations.
Organize and participate in academic activities such as
seminars, CMEs, and workshops
.
Contribute to curriculum development, pedagogical innovation, and implementation of competency-based medical education (CBME).
Research Responsibilities
Conduct independent and collaborative research in areas such as developmental anatomy, neuroanatomy, morphometry, or medical education.
Guide postgraduate dissertations and encourage student participation in research projects.
Publish research findings in indexed national and international journals as per
NMC requirements
.
Apply for grants and promote interdisciplinary research initiatives within the department.
Administrative and Departmental Responsibilities
Assist the Head of Department in managing academic schedules, departmental records, and laboratory maintenance.
Mentor Assistant Professors, Demonstrators, and Tutors.
Participate in faculty meetings, curriculum committees, and institutional quality assurance programs.
Oversee the functioning of the dissection hall, histology laboratory, and museum.
Ensure compliance with biosafety, ethical standards, and institutional regulations.
Qualifications and RequirementsEducational Qualifications
Essential:
MD (Anatomy) / MS (Anatomy) or equivalent postgraduate qualification recognized by the
National Medical Commission (NMC)
.
Desirable:
Ph.D. in Anatomy or related biomedical science discipline.
Experience (As per NMC Norms)
Minimum
5 years of teaching experience
as Assistant Professor in the subject after obtaining the postgraduate degree.
Minimum
2 research publications
in indexed journals, as per latest NMC guidelines.
Demonstrated experience in teaching, research, and departmental coordination.
Skills and Competencies
Profound knowledge of human anatomy and related disciplines.
Excellent teaching, communication, and mentoring skills.
Proficiency in using digital tools and modern teaching methodologies (simulation, 3D models, virtual anatomy tools).
