About the Organization
Swaniti Initiative is a social enterprise that works at the intersection of climate, governance, and last mile delivery. We believe that while the will and resources exist, there are fundamental gaps in execution within communities that is the biggest crisis in the climate movement. Accordingly, Swaniti works with sub national governments to conduct micro-planning exercises with consultations with communities and key stakeholders to understand the pathways forward, provide technical assistance to sub national governments to provide support in program implementation and support in monitoring and delivery of programs.
Swaniti has been working across multiple geographies in the global south to unlock capital. Our three core metrics include unlocking public capital, ensuring last mile communities are directly benefited and creating systemic changes in the public service systems. While we are continuing to focus on impact, it is critical to have a lead who has a deep understanding of monitoring, evaluation, and learning. Our intention is to create institutional capability to measure and document the scale of our impact and look at how learning can be replicated across the institution.
About the Role
We are looking for a dynamic and thoughtful Communications Associate to support our efforts with storytelling, outreach, and visibility efforts. This role will be pivotal in amplifying the voice of the organization, crafting strategic narratives, and translating our mission and impact into compelling, accessible, and high-quality communication across digital and offline channels. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about social impact and committed to improving how development work is communicated across platforms and stakeholders. The role involves translating complex ideas into engaging narratives that resonate with both grassroots communities and global audiences.
The associate will collaborate with internal teams including policy, programs, and partnerships and also support external engagement with media, donors, and the public. You will support the development and implementation of communication strategies, contribute to campaigns and public engagement efforts, and ensure that our work reaches diverse audiences including government stakeholders, civil society, media, and the public.
Key Responsibilities
1. Content Creation and Storytelling
Develop content for newsletters, social media, blogs, case studies, brochures, press releases, and policy briefs
Capture stories from the ground in partnership with program teams to highlight human-centred impact and support ground teams to capture impact stories.
Develop ground-level human stories that highlight the impact of the organization's work across sectors.
Support the preparation of institutional documents such as annual reports, program summaries, and donor decks
2. Digital and Social Media Engagement
Create and schedule regular content across social media platforms like LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, including maintain a monthly calendar and draft posts tailored to each platform.
Collaborate with designers to create supporting visuals including graphics, videos, and reels.
Monitor digital analytics and audience engagement metrics to optimize content performance. Draft press releases, op-eds, and media briefs for external dissemination.
Support media outreach and maintain relationships with journalists and publications
Maintain and update media contact lists, update and maintain list of event attendees, guests, and partners and their social media handles, assist in building media relationships, and manage media outreach.
4. Strategic Communication
Contribute to thematic campaigns that align with priority areas such as energy transition, public health, climate justice, and livelihoods
Assist in designing and executing communication campaigns around thematic priorities or key events.
Support internal branding efforts and stakeholder communications
Maintain consistent tone, language, and design across all external outputs, organized library of content, communication assets, and knowledge products.
Track engagement and analytics across platforms and prepare regular reports for leadership and donors.
5. Monitoring, Analysis & Reporting
Track engagement metrics, media coverage, and campaign performance.
Generate monthly/quarterly communication reports to inform strategy refinement.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, English, Development Studies, or a related field
3+ years of relevant work experience, preferably in the development, nonprofit, or policy sectors, digital marketing.
Strong writing skills with experience producing different content types across formats and audiences
Familiarity with basic design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite is preferred
A sound understanding of the development landscape and current policy issues
Skills and Competencies
Excellent written and verbal communication in English; fluency in other languages is an advantage
Ability to simplify technical content into clear and relatable messaging
Sensitivity to brand identity and visual consistency
Good understanding of social media tools and analytics platforms
Strong time management and collaboration skills
