The Research & Technology team in Bangalore has an immediate opening for the Associate Materials, Processes and Physics Engineer- to support the Chemical Technologies Advanced Material Characterization team which is part of Materials & Manufacturing Technology Integration team. Primary responsibilities: In this position, candidate will Serve as an subject matter expert for materials characterization and analytical data analysis techniques. Work with multi-disciplinary teams to develop and execute polymer-based materials characterization and investigation plans. Lead test method, characterization and validation activities Procure analytical equipment as and when needed Analysis of chemical, physical, and thermal properties of aerospace grade polymer materials and understand their interactions with each other. Communication of results and scientific interpretation is expected through preparation of professional technical reports and presentations. Manage small to medium projects that require advanced knowledge of materials characterization instruments. Review and approve the material analysis reports. Providing inputs for periodic updates and reviews in the form of progress reports. Be able to work in a team environment and provide expertise to the team Basic Qualifications: PhD in materials science, materials engineering, polymer science, chemistry with typically 5 to 8 years related work experience Experience with a variety of non-metallic materials characterization methods is required. Diverse knowledge of aerospace quality polymeric / elastomeric materials and their processing Knowledge on ASTM, ISO and Boeing materials testing procedures. Familiarity with industry specifications for adhesives, sealants, coatings, structural plastics, and other non-metallic materials. Hands-on experience with at least several of the capabilities listed below in a professional environment is required. Operating and maintaining analytical instruments including but not limited to GC, GC-MS, LC FTIR, UV-Vis, DSC, TGA. Electron Microscopy (SEM) Optical Microscopy and Image Analysis Elemental Analysis (EDS, WDS) Ability to analyze data and draw deeper conclusions from analytical data to drive faster turnaround times Demonstrable track record of learning new technologies quickly and using your skillset to have a tangible impact in a short time frame Ability to identify and execute polymer materials testing metrics to shorten the cycle of learning Apply knowledge in organic chemistry, polymers to solve issues in characterizing the coatings and finishes. Strong focus on polymer, organic and Inorganic materials by standard test methodologies including the materials such as polymer additives, fillers, sealants, curing agents, adhesives and organic coatings. A technical leader with the ability to positively influence peers and bring the team together Track record of intellectual property creation Implement Boeing safety standards while working. Maintains compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations Preferred Skills/Experience: 3+ years of industrial experience in the area of polymer materials Experience in polymer materials processing, research & development, and product development in the aerospace industry. Hands on experience in polymer characterization techniques and equipment, including SEM-EDS, FTIR, DSC, TGA, LFA, DMA, TMA, Rheometry, optical microscopy, mechanical property testing. Working experience on aerospace grade Elastomer, thermoplastic and thermoset materials Should have knowledge on coating Chemistry, application and functional testing (Corrosion, Adhesion, Hardness, wear, fatigue, etc.) of these coating systems. Broad understanding of failure modes in polymer materials Experience with technical review of polymer processing and understanding interaction between process variables and resultant material performance Education PhD in materials science, materials engineering, polymer science, chemistry with typically 6 to 12 years related work experience Relocation: This position offer relocation within India Export Control Requirements: Not an export control position Equal Opportunity Employer: We are an equal opportunity employer.
