Over the last 20 years, Ares' success has been driven by our people and our culture. Today, our team is guided by our core values - Collaborative, Responsible, Entrepreneurial, Self-Aware, Trustworthy - and our purpose to be a catalyst for shared prosperity and a better future. Through our recruitment, career development and employee-focused programming, we are committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive work environment where high-performance talent of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives can build careers within this exciting and growing industry.

Ares is seeking a Compliance Technology Developer to join our Legal, Risk & Compliance (LRC) Technology engineering team in Mumbai. This role will design, build, and support software solutions that enable key compliance capabilities--particularly those intersecting with the investment lifecycle (pre-trade and post-trade compliance) and the data/integration ecosystem required to support monitoring, controls, and reporting.
The position reports to a New York-based Engineering Lead and will collaborate closely with global stakeholders, engineering and product partners, and cross-functional technology teams. The ideal candidate is a strong software engineer with excellent fundamentals (object-oriented design, clean code practices, SQL, and modern development workflows) and experience integrating with investment platforms and data environments. Familiarity with Databricks and modern data platform patterns is highly valued. Pega experience is a plus but not required.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIESDesign, develop, and support software solutions that enable pre-trade and post-trade compliance capabilities, including controls automation, monitoring, exception workflows, and reporting enablement. Build and maintain integrations with investment and enterprise systems (APIs, services, batch processing, messaging/events as appropriate), ensuring reliability, monitoring, and strong data quality practices. Contribute to data-centric solutions that power compliance analytics and transparency, partnering with data engineering teams and leveraging platforms such as Databricks where applicable. Apply strong engineering discipline across the SDLC: requirements-to-design execution, development standards, code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD concepts, and release/change management. Write maintainable, well-tested code with strong attention to performance, resiliency, and operational supportability. Support production stability through effective troubleshooting, incident resolution, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement of monitoring and operational runbooks. Collaborate with business analysts, product partners, and engineering leads to translate requirements into technical designs, user stories, and deliverables with clear acceptance criteria. Ensure solutions align with enterprise standards for security, identity/access controls, logging, traceability, and evidence retention expected in regulated workflows. Communicate clearly and proactively across time zones--providing status updates, surfacing risks/issues early, and collaborating effectively with global team members. Contribute to continuous improvement by introducing pragmatic tooling, automation, and engineering best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS6+ years of progressive software engineering experience delivering business-critical applications and/or platform capabilities. Strong foundations in object-oriented design and software engineering best practices. Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work effectively in a global team environment. High standards for quality, attention to detail, and a strong sense of ownership and accountability. Bachelor's degree required (Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred).

Experience Required:Strong hands-on development experience in one or more common languages (e.g., Java, C#, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript) and modern engineering practices. SQL proficiency (required), including data analysis and troubleshooting across complex workflows and integrations. Experience designing and supporting integrated systems, including: + REST APIs/services, batch processing, messaging/event patterns
+ Data mapping, reconciliation, and monitoring/alerting approaches
Experience working with investment systems and related compliance touchpoints (pre-/post-trade) is strongly preferred. Experience with modern data platforms and patterns; familiarity with Databricks (preferred), including working with curated datasets, pipelines, and analytics enablement. Strong SDLC practice: version control, code reviews, testing discipline, deployment/release practices, and production support.

Preferred Qualifications:Exposure to compliance workflows such as trade surveillance, transaction compliance controls, monitoring, attestations, approvals, exceptions, or regulatory reporting (or adjacent LRC processes). Experience working in regulated financial services or similarly high-control environments. Experience collaborating with distributed teams across India and the U.S., including overlap hours when needed. Familiarity with low-code platforms (including Pega) is a plus.

General RequirementsAbility to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities. Strong ownership mindset with disciplined execution and follow-through. Curious and committed to continuous learning; actively stays current on technology and engineering best practices. Collaborative, service-oriented approach; builds credibility through responsiveness, clarity, and quality. Comfortable with ambiguity and able to resolve issues with minimal supervision. Willingness to flex working hours as needed to support global collaboration and production needs.
