Job Description




Job Title: Sr. Manager/Assistant General Manager - Business Excellence
Location: JSL Plant, Jajpur
Reports To: Head - Operational Excellence & Plant Performance

Role Purpose:
The AGM- Business Excellence will support Head Operational Excellence in driving JSL's journey towards world-class standards and Emerging Leaders 2028 pipeline and in the Excellence 2030 vision.
The incumbent will be instrumental in the design, implementation, and governance of excellence frameworks, ensuring integration of quality systems, continuous improvement practices, and digital transformation initiatives across the plant. This position will work closely with all production units to drive cost optimization, quality enhancement, and performance excellence through structured governance and improvement methodologies. This position demands a leader who can help align excellence programs with business strategy, influence cultural transformation and drive plant-wide performance improvement to deliver long-term stakeholder value.

Key Responsibilities:

1.Strategic Planning & Deployment
oDrive Business Excellence strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
oFacilitate deployment of frameworks like TPM, Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and 5S across all departments.
oCollaborate with operations (SMS, CRM, HSM, QA, Maintenance, and other functions) to integrate excellence principles into daily practices, providing strategic direction on improvement priorities.

2.Process Improvement & Optimization
oIdentify gaps in operational processes and lead improvement projects to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
oDrive cost reduction initiatives without compromising quality or safety.

3.Quality & Compliance
oEnsure adherence to ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001) and other regulatory requirements.
oMonitor and improve quality metrics across production lines.

4.Performance Management
oSupport in establishing KPIs for productivity, quality, and cost; monitor and report performance trends.
oConduct benchmarking studies and implement best practices from global stainless steel industry leaders.

5.People Development & Culture Building
oTrain and mentor teams on Lean Six Sigma tools, problem-solving techniques, and continuous improvement mindset.
oPromote a culture of excellence, innovation, and accountability.

6.Digital Transformation & Analytics
oLeverage Industry 4.0 tools, data analytics, and automation for process improvement.
oMonitor dashboards for real-time monitoring of operational performance.

Qualifications & Experience:Education: B.Tech/M.Tech in Mechanical/Metallurgy/Production Engineering or related field. Experience: 14-16 years in Business Excellence/Operational Excellence roles in steel or heavy manufacturing industry. Certifications: Lean Six Sigma Black Belt preferred; TPM/Kaizen certifications desirable.


Skills & Competencies:Strong knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, TPM, and Quality Management Systems. Analytical and problem-solving skills with proficiency in data-driven decision-making. Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities. Familiarity with digital tools for process monitoring and improvement.
