Responsibilities

Assist the store manager in supervising daily store operations, including opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and inventory control. Support employee orientation, onboarding, training, and development initiatives to foster a knowledgeable and motivated team. Lead by example in delivering excellent customer service through effective communication skills, phone etiquette, and problem-solving. Oversee retail sales activities, including merchandising, pricing strategies, promotional campaigns, and sales management to meet or exceed targets. Manage shift schedules to ensure optimal coverage while maintaining efficient time management and organizational skills. Conduct interviewing processes for potential new hires, participate in recruiting efforts, and assist with employee evaluations. Oversee POS (Point of Sale) systems for transactions such as cashiering, sales processing, and returns while ensuring accuracy in retail math calculations. Handle payroll processing, bookkeeping tasks, and assist with budgeting to support store financial health. Maintain inventory management through stock ordering, stocking, inventory control audits, and purchasing to prevent shrinkage and ensure product availability. Supervise merchandising efforts to enhance store presentation and customer engagement through effective visual displays. Support marketing initiatives by implementing promotional strategies that drive traffic and increase sales. Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures while fostering a positive work environment that emphasizes teamwork and leadership development.

Experience

Proven supervisory or assistant manager experience within a retail environment is required. Demonstrated proficiency in retail sales management, inventory control, cash handling, and POS systems. Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and manage multiple priorities effectively. Excellent communication skills in English; multilingual or bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse customer bases. Experience with recruiting, employee orientation, training & development programs is highly desirable. Knowledge of retail math--including pricing strategies--and familiarity with grocery store operations or similar retail sectors is preferred. Ability to perform administrative tasks such as bookkeeping, payroll processing, budgeting, and stock management efficiently. Strong organizational skills coupled with attention to detail in supervising daily store functions like stocking, merchandising, and inventory management.
