Position Summary



The Assistant Professor in Forensic Medicine will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, conducting medico-legal research, participating in forensic casework, and contributing to the academic and administrative functions of the department. The position requires strong expertise in forensic pathology, toxicology, and medico-legal procedures, along with a commitment to academic excellence and ethical practice.

Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching and Academic Duties



Plan, prepare, and deliver lectures, tutorials, and practical demonstrations in

Forensic Medicine and Toxicology

for MBBS and postgraduate (MD Forensic Medicine) students. Conduct case discussions, seminars, and bedside teaching related to medico-legal aspects. Supervise and guide students in dissertations, research projects, and case report preparation. Develop and update the curriculum, teaching materials, and assessment tools as per

NMC

(National Medical Commission) guidelines. Evaluate student performance through written, practical, and viva examinations.

Research Responsibilities



Undertake independent and collaborative research projects in areas such as forensic pathology, toxicology, medical jurisprudence, or related fields. Publish research papers in reputed national and international journals. Guide and supervise postgraduate research dissertations. Seek funding for research through grants and proposals.

Medico-Legal and Administrative Duties



Conduct and assist in medico-legal postmortem examinations, age estimation, and forensic case analysis as per institutional and legal protocols. Provide expert medico-legal opinions and maintain proper documentation. Coordinate with law enforcement, judiciary, and public health agencies as needed. Participate in departmental and institutional meetings, accreditation processes, and quality assurance activities. Engage in community outreach, continuing medical education (CME), and training programs.

Qualifications and RequirementsEducational Qualifications



Essential:

MD (Forensic Medicine) / MBBS with recognized postgraduate qualification in Forensic Medicine (as per NMC/UGC norms).

Desirable:

Ph.D. or additional certifications/training in medico-legal investigation, forensic toxicology, or digital forensics.

Experience



As per

NMC norms:

Minimum 3 years of teaching and/or research experience in Forensic Medicine after obtaining the postgraduate degree (for appointment as Assistant Professor). Experience in conducting autopsies, preparing medico-legal reports, and court evidence is desirable.

Skills and Competencies



Sound knowledge of forensic pathology, toxicology, and medical jurisprudence. Ability to perform and teach medico-legal autopsies and related procedures. Strong communication and presentation skills. Research aptitude with evidence of publications in indexed journals. Ethical integrity and ability to handle sensitive medico-legal matters. Teamwork, mentoring, and organizational abilities.

Preferred Qualifications



Experience in digital forensics, clinical toxicology, or crime scene investigation. Familiarity with modern teaching technologies (simulation, e-learning platforms). Experience in academic administration or curriculum development.
